Games get started, then they get cancelled. It happens.
Is it a large number? Slightly. But there's no need for panic!

sigh this thread doesn't make a difference. it just adds to the fact the people are complaining for no reason. 3rd party 3DS games are still coming. 3DS price right now is very good because Nintendo can continue to sell at the steady pace they are right now and I'm very sure that this holiday season, it will get a price cut with some awesome game releases making it the hot buy. Quote me on this.
NINTENDO
nintendo forever . . .

Agreed, Nintendo needs to be given a harsh dose of reality in order for them to wake up and revert their strategy back to a mass market approach they took during the greater part of the DS and Wii's lifespan.I fear they are getting lost in their graphic whore/ hardware obsessed nature that plagued them during the N64 and Gamecube days, and they will get similar sales to those platforms if they keep following a similar strategy. On top of this, you have their stuborness in regards to Project Rainfall and snubbing the Wii owners by refusing the follow through on motion plus games for Wii. There is absolutely NO excuse for them to stop making Wii games when the console still has respectable sales, even IF you want to release your next console in a year. Nintendo needs another humbling similar to the one they recieved in the late 90s - early 2000s, and the one Sony recieved in 2005.
It's the same situation that I feel about one of my equally loved organizations, the Cubs. It's like, they've reached such a low that now I just root for them to lose so some things get shaken up, their GM and manager get fired, and bring in new people willing and able to actually win.

Which would be what? Sell out to the cell-phone companies? Specialist handhelds will endure the way specialist consoles endure; games that make them worth buying over the PC that you definitely already have |
That's a bad analogy.
The PC is becoming obsolete as a default computer; eventually replaced by tablet PCs for common every day uses. While it will always have its core usage, to include dedicated PC gaming, the simple facts are much of what PCs are used for by the average person can now be done without a desktop or even a laptop computer.
The continued success of dedicated consoles doesn't mean that dedicated portable gaming devices will continue to thrive in a market where "cell-phones" are essentially hand held computers with the same processing capabilities or better than dedicated portable gaming devices.
First party Nintendo games may be enough to keep them solvent as a business, but even as an NTDOY investor, I just don't see any upside to their portable strategy.

If the 3DS "dies," that may well be the end of Nintendo's storied past in portable gaming devices.
We'll see over the next 2-3 years whether high budget portable games ($40 portable games), 3D or not have any real future in a predominantly download portable gaming market.
Problem with that is that the cell phones are not designed to accomodate those games, but the other way around. I also don't think the cell phones are effectively more powerful than the handhelds -- nor AS powerful. Remember that the consoles get to do things equivalent PC hardware couldn't even DREAM of due to standardized hardware and being a dedicated device.

Nintendo just needs 3 games to answer your question, Mario Kart 3DS, Super Mario 3DS, and Pokemon 3DS
Paper Mario 3DS, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, Luigi's Mansion 2, etc.. are just icing on the cake.
i can remeber after last years E3 ds fans claiming 3ds will suck up third party support from ps360 lol, this is a worrying trend though
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk
really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Nintendo's market space should be quality titles, not high-budget titles.
No one has made a game as polished as 2D Mario or Zelda or Metroid in their genres except Nintendo themselves. All the "App Store" developers out there and a HUGE market wanting sequels to these titles but no one steps up.
Nintendo would only have to put ~10 people on a 2D sequel to the above for the 3DS, but they'd be very experienced people with clear goals. Something Rovio or whoever couldn't match. Because I don't see them doing it.
Would cost maybe a million dollars at a stretch, which is nothing given it would get 10m sales easy. Even if it was a clone title without the brand recognition I see it selling 2-3m on the iPhone.
This is bad news, and not just for the 3DS. It's not as if these games are appearing elsewhere. I think the 8th generation will be the first one where the market actually shrinks.
