This is not good for Nintendo. If most of the features can be mimicked then they just lost 51 million possible consumers whom they are aiming at with the WiiU.

I have been saying for a while that the Wii U wasn't going to be sufficient to get PS360 owners to upgrade and this only cements that they aren't offering enough. This and their flawed position on online.

Considering the PS3 will probably have a price drop this year the PS3/V combo will be price competitive especially for the 51 million that already own a PS3.Were I Sony I would put the PS4 on hold unless M$ announces a new console.

This is possibly the most ignorant post I've read.

Call it what you chose. It's not my fault people are too blind to see that Nintendo is alienating both segments of the consumers they claim to be courting by catering to developers.

How are they alienating both segments?  The touch controller has the potential to be just as intuitive and user frendly as the Wii motion controls were.  One of the reasons touch-based smart phones took over is because they feature an intuitive, easy to understand interface.  If the Wii U has a killer game (hopefully included like Wii Sports) that shows off the simple interface capabilities of the system, the expanded market could easily be on board, particularly since it's 100% Wii motion capable as well.

As for the core gaming market, that's exactly why they're catering to developers.  I certainly don't believe the majority of PS360 owners will instantly switch over to Wii U, but many people who don't own an HD twin yet may see the Wii U as the one to get, and 5 year owners of a current console looking for something new might consider Wii U if the games are there and the price is right.

OT:  Hearing Naughty Dog's words are actually great praise to Nintendo.  If the Wii U were an absurd idea, companies wouldn't be boasting the fact that their own console can simulate the same actions.  Clearly they believe that Nintendo could be on to something again.

I doesn't matter whether a feature can be "mimicked", it only matters whether a feature will be taken advantage of at a high enough quality often enough to have an impact on sales; and anyone who believes this is the case with the PS Vita/PS3 connectivity is simply being delusional. After all, over 5 years ago Sony talked about how the PSP and PS3 could interact and yet almost no games were released that took advantage of those features; why would we expect PS Vita/PS3 connectivity to be taken advantage of when PSP/PS3 connectivity never was?

"I doesn't matter whether a feature can be "mimicked"" well actually thats what this whole thread is about - naughty dog claiming that the ps3 vita combo can replicate the type of experiences nintendo is going for and while this is true

"over 5 years ago Sony talked about how the PSP and PS3 could interact and yet almost no games were released that took advantage of those features"

theres evidence now that sony is taking the ps3 vita connection much more seriously with the demonstrations of cross play online and transfer of game data via the cloud to say that because they didn't do something in the past and therefore won't do it in the future is just wrong because theres obvious evidence to the contrary

edit heres a video demonstrating syncing via the cloud funny enough it looks very similar to what nintendo showed of the wii u with a game being played first on the console then continued on the go with vita :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4H_M_9xIzM

....but as i said in the op the fact that ps vita ownage won't be standard for all ps3 owners will impact how much support it recieves

While he may be techically correct, the PS Vita and PS3/PS4 will not be used like the Wii U on a wide scale because no developer can count on a PS3/PS4 owner having a PS Vita and vice versa. On top of that, the Wii U will probably be in a price range where the unit as a whole is close to half the price of the PS Vita and PS3/PS4 combined.

"the Wii U will probably be in a price range where the unit as a whole is close to half the price of the PS Vita and PS3/PS4 combined."

vita = $250, ps3 = $300 vita + ps3 = $550 / 2 = $225

i highly doubt the wii u will be this cheap i'd say probably  $350 - $400

then if we factor in price drops of $50 - $100 off the ps3 before the wii u launches vita + ps3 = $450 - $500 ( which is much closer than your estimate )

i dont really think the wiiu will be 400, im thinking 300-350

also the ps3/vita thing depends on which version is gotten right

vita = $250, ps3 = $300 vita + ps3 = $550 / 2 = $225

vita 3g= $300, ps3-320gig = $350(ithink) vita + ps3 = $650 / 2 = $225=325

though regardless, if your really looking for that dual screen experience the wiiU is built around it so i see that as being the better bet.

"vita 3g= $300, ps3-320gig = $350(ithink) vita + ps3 = $650 / 2 = $225=325"

ps3s cost $300 now and i expect that the price will drop to $250 or $200 before the wii u launches

the wifi model is the most popular model ( among the comments i've seen) thats how i arrived at this $550 or $450 after price drops

also "i dont really think the wiiu will be 400, im thinking 300-350" really? the controller itself looks like it could cost over $100... ereaders like the kindle with black and white display, no cams, mics etc cost over $100 already is it really likely the controller on this thing will be less? and thats just the controller then theres the fact that nintendo prefers to gain profit  on their consoles unlike sony and microsoft

you think the controller cdosts over 100? i highly doubt that.

you can't pack that much features into a device and not expect its price to rise substantially as i said before ebook readers with far less features cost over $100

there must be a reason that nintendo ( known for profiting on most or all things they sell ) are reluctant to answer whether they will be available for retail

Here we go again, why do people keep posting threads on a Sony owned game company dissing Nintendo. Do you think a Sony company would say "Ya that Wii U will sell great"
Pffff what a clown joke this is ! If you want to add a non bias comment, why not add the comments from all the recent Devs praising Wii U....but you wouldn't want to share that with people would you?? So disgusting

Seeing your avatar im not surprised about your comment, but clearly you`re overthinking this and taking it way too seriously.

Um seeing that your portible id is PSN, and seeing that most of the games on your profile are Sony based, It's no surprise that you have a problem with what i said. So what's the difference ?

And no i am not taking this too seriously, it makes ZERO sense to quote a Sony company having an opinion about a Nintendo product....it's that simple. That's like saying "Coca-cola says their soda tastes better then Pepsi".... Obviousy this is just an attempt for the OP to scratch his own itch.

Like i said before, lots of Devs have come out to praise WiiU......but this comment from Naughty Dog is more important?

I have a Wii and love it too as i've loved Nintendo since NES, I also love Playstation.  Does nintendo have a portable ID i can put on?  But yea your avatar makes you look like you worship the Wii U and the way it sounds is that you cant phathom the idea that there can be anything absolutely negetive towards the Wii U.

Suck it up, ND expressed their own views just like billions of other people.

Nobody's saying that ND's comment is more important just dont be upset that people are interested in what ND says rather than the other devs.   If you're not happy then just dont be in this thread. Thats all there is to it.

btw,   Have you ever seen the Pepsi commercial where they advertised their drink as better than Coke with the Coke truck driving switching his drink from coke to pepsi? Yeap they can say that.

Obviousy your original comment  is just an attempt for to scratch your own itch.

Look dude, if EA or Rockstar, or Sega came out and said "WiiU is a waste of space" I would sure as hell not buy it. And would take their opinion as gospel.

1)What don't you understand? Naughty Dog is NOT like billions of people....as you say. It is a company owned by SONY. And are you serious? " people are interested in what ND says rather than the other devs."  i believe that is the worst and wrong statement i have ever read. You honestly think that people prefer Naughty Dogs opinion over say EA, Rockstar, any of the big ones? Nice try.

2) Dude thats not even what i meant. Of course Pepsi and Coke can diss eachother. I'm saying what would be the point of talking about it. Of course a competing company will say their product is better...don't you get it?????....thats NOT news, thats NOT important.

3) Last time i checked i was allowed to voice my opinion on this website, regardless if is in favor of Sony, MS, or Nintendo.

4) Are you really just going to copy what i wrote?

Ebook readers with far more features can also be picked up for less than $100 today, and likely will be far less in 18 months (when the Wii U is released) ...

Most ebook readers are expensive because they're based off of e-ink, but the noname manufactured color lcd touchscreen ebook readers are actually very inexpensive.

Can the PS3 transmitted  HD video wirelessly?

Given that remote play works over the internet, i imagine it would certainly be capable of achieving that locally.
