I think Sony should get From Software. Demon souls was such an awesome RPG and i was upset when are heard that there next installment dark souls would be mutliplat.

Also incase yall didnt know Sony has plenty of exclusives RPG's. Many of them are 3rd party coming from Nis-america and Atlus.

Of course they do, SONY needs there own especially since they Lost FF to MS and soon Nintendo( Nintendo might be able to pull numbers from SONY)

No it really doesn't. JRPG doesn't have a commanding market presence other than Final Fantasy. The niche market is being catered by third party using Sony's own engine to churn out cheap budget title exclusively for the PS3/PSP while big budget JRPG will have a really hard time ignoring Sony unless they are being money hatted.

Sony will NOT is a JRPG focus studio has mission critical and really it isn't. WRPG is more contentious as it has wider appeal overall and 360 has the ability to receive easy port from former PC exclusives studios who can more easily convert their project to include the 360 architect. It really comes down to who they intend to buy. I am really having a hard time recalling any good WRPG studio that are still freelance. Most are bought or associated with a big publisher, they will like have to look around for talents in Europe.

Final Fantasy is only Mainstrean because it is the Only breed to be. It gettin annoying that ppl think JRPG's cant be big outside or should just literated to hanhelds. a 1st party created JRPG by SONY(which instantly raise its chances), with the right quality, and the right marketing could easily outsell SONY's current IP's( which FFXIII a JRPG has already done). FF didnt get big overnight, it took constant breeding for that success.

That's exactly what happened though.  Square would probably be at the same level as Gust, Nis, etc, if Sony didn't take Final Fantasy 7, give it a marketing push that hasn't been seen until Halo 3, and made it seem like it was the greatest game ever made.

I think if they concentrate their resources get a good story write, bring back some classic RPG combat, and start legend of dragoon from scratch has potential to be the next dragon quest or final fantasy franchise. Too bad Xenogears developers never made a good game after Xenogears, Xenosagas were not as good, and now they belong to N.

Xenoblade disagrees.

On Topic:

Yes they do need to do something on that front.

I'm glad this isn't another thread about why sony should want to buy the overrated Level-5

JRPG devs SONY should buy are Atlus or Tri-Ace.

If those buyings aren't possible who made Wild Arms, TLOD etc? If they are still employed at Sony get them to make a new RPG.

I completely support the item of buying up Tri-Ace, but another studio Sony should look to improve relations with at least is Mistwalker.

The first is a kick in the face of gamers, and the other is simply not gonna happen. Ever.

Building a studio from ground up > buying someone.

I dont think I want tri-Ace to be bought or any other JRPG Developer get bought It would be better if SONY just made a JRPG Team , I want tri-Ace to take L5's spot. Rumors say Sakaguchi doesn't like or Somebody from SONY... do see it happening

He didn't like Kuturagi, he felt that Kuturagi just develops things for his own needs but doesn't think about the developers (Read that from an interview with him).  But with Kuturagi gone there's no reason to shy away from even the Vita (I can only guess the Vita is easier to develop for than the PS3 but that's me talking out of my ass right now.)

Except that Xenogears and Xenosaga doesnt comes from the same developers nor share the same trademark. Monolith soft. simply took some inspiration from it.

Correct, you need to nuture the IP for it to grow, unfortunately, Sony is bleeding and wounded atm, a studio that focuses on a genre widely consider to be stagnant and that will require generation to see substantial mainstream appeal is simply not economical.

Ok, so first I would like to point out that this is a very tough period for Sony financially. They will soon be releasing Vita, which is expected to sell at a loss on hardware for 3 years. This is particularly bad for handhelds - extra controllers on home consoles are a great source of income). They are also no doubt spending a lot of RnD money finishing the PS4, which shall release shortly afterafter Vita, and which will also likely be sold at a loss for the first 2+ years.

What this means, is that Sony have to be very careful about what developers they buy, and what new studios they open.

The only thing is, Sony have a large amount of cash that they are sitting on, I don't know where it has come from, but there have been loads of stories about them buying up things (Sony as a whole, not SCE)

Sony may end up buying something, but it ain't gonna be an RPG studio

I would rather them start up a small team or put one of their JPN studios to work on creating some low cost old school style JRPGs and releasing them on PSN.

No need for these kinds of titles being long, drawn out high budget productions.

Sometimes in games (Especially JRPG titles for me) less is more.

I wonder if that has something to do with me preferring to read text in games like that rather than have fully voiced and long length cutscenes. It is why I enjoyed DQIX so much.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
