I expect a lot more hard core style games for the Wii. Just like Microsoft and Sony are going to go after the casual gamers and continue on the hard core. The company that succeeds taking someone else's arena will win the generation.
Nintendo does make hardcore games, its just that they try to make the games assecesible to everyone making the difficulty not be realized till you play it.

"We want realistic graphics which support high definition." Unfortunately for the companies who listened to these things, it turned out that the majority of gamers don't want these things, at least not with such a strong focus. Prices of the hardware increased drastically even though the systems are/were sold at a loss. Games cost more on average now and still publishers have problems to turn in profits. The "hardcore" got what they wanted from Microsoft and Sony. Companies make losses because they listened to the wishes of the "hardcore" and yet the "hardcore" say that Nintendo is destroying the industry with the Wii (and the DS). Oh, the irony. |
I'm really tired of the "hardcore" FPS bullsh*t. Besides real hardcore gamers don't say that Nintendo is destroying the industry. Real hardcore gamers own or at least played every Nintendo console together with Sega and Sony consoles. The so called hardcore gamers are no real gamers, they are 14-18 year old guys that think they are too cool for Mario and think they must play gorgeous looking FPS only, maybe with GTA as a sidestep to show this under-adult coolness and everything else is kiddy. Of course grown ups who grew up with Nintendo or Sega know that in the 8 and 16 bit era games were a lot tougher than nowadays.
That people say Wii is owned by casuals alone don't know what they are talking about.
Zelda TP sold over 4 million on Wii, and if that aint a hardcore game I don't know what is. That's about 1/4 of the Wii owners that is hardcore.
I really agree with Itsamii and Rol and if Sony and Microsoft are after these kind of gamers, they deserve to come in last, cause they ABANDON the real hardcore gamer, that wants to play all kinds of games. The Wii is more and more looking like the new SNES, which, IMO, was the ultimate gaming device, despite being way underpowered to NeoGeo.
The corporation that is Nintendo makes some of the biggest hardcore games available. So I still don't see why so many people are saying they aren't supporting he hardcore. Just buying a Nintendo console, your insured that the hardcores will get games because Nintendo will be bringing their franchises to it of course.
I think most people get the complaints is that 3rd parties aren't doing a good enough job supporting the hardcores, which makes me wonder why everyone always blames it on Nintendo when they are doing the same job they've been doing for 25 yrs.
Nintendo never forgot about the hardcore. In fact, compared to all the hardcore games, there are actually VERY few casual games. I mean, for the Wii alone, Twilight Princess, Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, SSB Brawl, Super Paper Mario, Battalion Wars, Fire Emblem.. They are WAY more hardcore than casual games.

You dont know what hardcore games, are and yes nintendo abandoned the Hardcore, in order to attract casuals.

I hate the term "Hard-Core" because it is a loosely defined term, and used by people to only identify their own gaming tastes; "Casual" is equally as bad, and is used to identify the types of games people who declare themself as "Hard-Core" don't like ...
The fact is that Nintendo has released a lot of conventional games which have had a track record of sales since the N64 or Gamecube; games like The Legend of Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime, Super Paper Mario, Mario Party, Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars, and Super Mario Strikers are all (pretty much) the same games Nintendo has been making for decades so you can't really claim that Nintendo has abandoned anyone.
Smart third parties Like Ubisoft, EA, Namco and Capcom have noticed the success of Nintendo and their conventional games and are bringing out their own conventional games ...
The reality of this situation is that the only people who claim Nintendo has abandoned gamers are people who didn't own a Gamecube (and probably didn't own an N64) and were previously claiming that the Wii would be unsuccessful (and then later that the Wii was a fad).

I find it quite funny how "Hardcore" gets defined now at days....
The Wii has "Hardcore" you just fail to realize it.
