You are my hero. Good to see you still refuse the dicotomy hardcore X casual. These self proclaimed hardcores are a joke. It goes like this:

pseudo-hardcore: Nintendo is destroying gaming as we know it, they hate the hardcore.
core gamer: Do you miss the Gamecube? That was one of the most hardcore consoles ever.
pseudo-hardcore: ah ... I did not own a GC. My favorite games were not avaible on the GC. You know Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, GTA.
core gamer: Interesting. These game are the most mainstream of their respective genres. It could be argued they appeal to a more "casual" crownd.
pseudo-hardcore: Whatever, I dislike Nintendo games.
core gamer: Nintendo is not genre nor develops genre exclusive games. Ignoring the fact that there are other things than Nintendo games on GC, avoiding Nintendo developed games is as arbitrary as avoiding games that start with F or games with red colored covers.
pseudo-hardcore: Sorry, gotta go. Mom is calling me for dinner.

The "hardcore" are the most vocal group of gamers on the internet, that's probably why Microsoft and Sony (and most 3rd parties) listened to their desires how the 7th generation has to be.

"We want realistic graphics which support high definition."
"Online play has to become standard in games."
"Hard disk and downloadable content."
"We want epic games."
"We want mature games."

Unfortunately for the companies who listened to these things, it turned out that the majority of gamers don't want these things, at least not with such a strong focus. Prices of the hardware increased drastically even though the systems are/were sold at a loss. Games cost more on average now and still publishers have problems to turn in profits.

The "hardcore" got what they wanted from Microsoft and Sony. Companies make losses because they listened to the wishes of the "hardcore" and yet the "hardcore" say that Nintendo is destroying the industry with the Wii (and the DS). Oh, the irony.

I'm really tired of the "hardcore" FPS bullsh*t. Besides real hardcore gamers don't say that Nintendo is destroying the industry. Real hardcore gamers own or at least played every Nintendo console together with Sega and Sony consoles. The so called hardcore gamers are no real gamers, they are 14-18 year old guys that think they are too cool for Mario and think they must play gorgeous looking FPS only, maybe with GTA as a sidestep to show this under-adult coolness and everything else is kiddy. Of course grown ups who grew up with Nintendo or Sega know that in the 8 and 16 bit era games were a lot tougher than nowadays.

That people say Wii is owned by casuals alone don't know what they are talking about.

Zelda TP sold over 4 million on Wii, and if that aint a hardcore game I don't know what is. That's about 1/4 of the Wii owners that is hardcore.

I really agree with Itsamii and Rol and if Sony and Microsoft are after these kind of gamers, they deserve to come in last, cause they ABANDON the real hardcore gamer, that wants to play all kinds of games. The Wii is more and more looking like the new SNES, which, IMO, was the ultimate gaming device, despite being way underpowered to NeoGeo.
