Forums - Nintendo - Squarenix considering Dragon Quest X for WiiU

So instead of a Zelda Twilight Princess situation, we could ended up with a Dragon Quest X.

Dragon Quest X has been announced for the Wii, and Square Enix has repeatedly stated that it's going to be released on that platform. But it may have support for another platform as well.

During an shareholder's meeting today (a transcript was provided at this blog), Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada was asked about the logic of releasing DQX on the Wii when the system has passed its prime. Wada responded that Square Enix must consider making the game compatible with both the Wii and its successor, the Wii U. The company is currently doing technical investigations on how to support Wii U, said Wada.

I smell another delay.... this industry really doesn't like the Wii at all

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

What's wrong with you Squeenix?? Just give us SOME info on the game and release it on the Wii ASAP! Then you could do a Tales Of Gracesnand add extra stuff for Wii U later ;)

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I think the wisest decision would be to put it on PS3. Seems these sorts of games do best on PS3

The Wii U is 99% compatible with the Wii. You'd only release it on the Wii U if you take can advantage of the console features.

Unless they can see some major gameplay advantage to the new controller it makes no sense to make it a two platform scenario like TP. After all, the WiiU will be backwards compatible with any Wii software including controllers.

So by making it compatible with the WiiU, it will also be compatible with the PS3? Unless they make use of the tablet of course.

I don't think Square-Enix really wanted to release it on the Wii anyway. You would think that if a publisher was developing what is almost certainly their most high profile home console exclusive of the 7th gen, they would release some other games for the platform before. All that S-E has done for the Wii is a chocobo game, crystal bearers and DQ Swords (which was developed by Nintendo anyway). S-E were really hesitant to jump on the VC bandwagon as well, they didn't do so until 2008.

I don't want to start the whole 'where will KH3 go?' shitstorm, but there is no doubt in my mind that the Wii should've got a KH game. S-E could've easily taken advantage of the Wii, but they just decided to do nothing bar DQX, which is now even looking shaky. Seriously WTF S-E?

Very wise move, it will not only help the sales of the game but will make Wii U dominance guaranteed in Japan. And will add hope of a PS3 port.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

They might as well make it a WiiU only title
