I'm sorry but no reviewer can tell me a game is as bad or worse than Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust.
It is just not possible.

I've only played this a little, (I don't own it) but from what I experienced, I'm not surprised it got an F; it deserves it. Truly a rotten game; disjointed, boring, and stuck awkwardly halfway between modern and oldschool. Simply playing it is an unpleasant chore.
To be frank, I think the game's legendary vaporware status and the character's long absence are preventing many people from accepting that it's just plain atrocious.
Unless it gets drastically better outside of the sections I played, (some shooting bits and a driving section) I'd put it right down there with Sonic the Hedgehog '06, Ninjabread Man, and Lair.

Just letting you know, the review system changed in 2008. The review was written in 06. Dan Hsu doesn't work for 1UP anymore (since they fired him and the rest of the EGM crew) and they did a bang up job translating Mr. Hsu's 9 out of 10 score to A+ when they switched to the new system.
1UP isn't even worth paying attention to anymore since they got bought out by UGO who fired all the good editors and then UGO themselves got bought by IGN.
I'm not trying to discredit your post, I'm just explaining.
@OP
The game is actually a lot of fun. I like it. Car controls could use work (just like in Half-Life 2/ep1/2) and it's not always super clear where you need to go but it certainly doesn't have ridiculous loading times like these reviewers are saying and terrible graphics and bad framerate.
I can't speak for consoles, but no one should be playing a Duke Nukem game on a console to begin with. I also never played Duke Nukem 3D so I don't have any bias? I guess against DNF. It's a fun game and worth the 44.99 USD I paid for it on Steam before it came out. Skip the console versions, most people could probably run this game on their PCs anyway. And I'm pretty sure it's 50 bucks on Steam, not 60.

I loved Duke Nukem back in the day but this one just doesn't seem good. One part of me feels like I owe it to myself to play it since I've been waiting nearly 15 years for it, the other part of me wants to just "return" it to Gamestop and save my nostalgia. |
Unless you really have something better to buy with your $60 or whatever you're paying, just play it anyway. If you've actually been waiting 15 years it would be closure.
Worst case scenario it will be like meeting an old girlfriend from years ago after which you'll be wondering what the attraction was in the first place.
Nostalgia's highly overrated anyway. Much like an old person's perspective, it only makes one fondly remember the things that were never really that good to begin with.

I actually struggled to try and play through that game, if for no other reason than that I genuinely enjoyed playing some of the original Al Lowe games back when the technicals were so primitive that clever innuendo and dick & fart jokes were enough to make them entertaining.
I think I owe it to myself to try and play it again just to remember how bad it really was.
this is somewhat remeniscent of th eGTA4 100s..... a few sites say it's great so all the others have to 1up that.... ooh.. =)

Idk, had to quote this.
