Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Can Support Two Controllers, Pachter Says

And if Michael Pachter says so, it must be true!

Seriously though, apparently in a meeting the Wedbush Morgan analyst was informed of this by Reggie Fils-Aime himself.  Full article from IGN below.

Personally I think this is great news.  First, because I'd like to see more than one screen controller utilized simultaneously (if possible), and second, Nintendo had hinted previously that the screen controller would not be available for purchase separately; what if it breaks?  Hopefully this is confirmation that the controller will be available in stores.

Of course it will be available in stores to purchase separately.

OT: good news! ^^

For once I hope Patcher is right.

good news

"They were particularly unclear about whether the console would support more than one of their tablet-like controllers; Mr. Miyamoto said no, but Reggie said yes (to me in a meeting)," said Pachter. "Obviously, they intend to ship the console with only one of these controllers, so it is unlikely that anyone will develop games that require two, but they were not clear whether the capability exists."

Always thought we would have the second one optional at the end. Would be good to know how they handle it, could U use the two at the same time for video conferencing, surfing the web, playing eShop games, streaming video, or simply co-op.

Im sure people will complain about not being able to have support for 4 controllers if true.....

I wouldn't see why not. If they needed to, just reduce resolution overall to support more controllers, given how much lower than actual HD (720p) gamers have been willing to put up with this gen from top-selling games on the HD consoles, certainly similarly low levels could be tolerated as an exchange for multiplayer

My guess is the second controller will be sold only with extra software, something that makes use of it, like Wii Play was this time, as it will be a more premium product than a mere standalone accessory

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

In fact, i somehow hope for 4 controler support. no trolling, i just dreamed of playing Mario Kart with 4 players using this tablet-controlers.
You could play lying on the couch or sitting on a chair, in two groups or everyone on his own.
Wii could still play with 2 people using tablet and 2 people using the Tv split-screened, but why put down the hope?
Of course, i can see the problem regarding costs and probably streaming-bandwidth and processing power.
But why not let the consumer decide and support 4players, even with lower-quality graphics?
U shoud be able to decide, imo.

So it can't?

Normally.

But it's not a prediction of Pachter, it's somehow hinted from Reggie.

So, wii/u still could have hope.
