Forums - Sales - So does my prediction of the PSVita outselling the 3DS sound crazy now?

It was never crazy to begin with. I see some of you forgetting the power of Playstation.

Wait till Gran Turismo releases. Then we'll talk.

Price cut, Call of Duty, Monster Hunter.

Never heard the gran turismo saving theory before! One more and it's chalkboard time!

I've never understood the PS3 chalkboard. A lot of the things listed really DID contribute to saving the PS3.

Didn't you hear? It was discontinued in 2009.

Didn't you hear? PS3 dominated both Wii and Xbox360 and is currently the #1 selling current gen console.

In terms of exclusives, it is debatable, so I guess one could make such a claim. In terms of sales, it has been catching up both to wii and 360 and was #1 selling console the last 2 years according to VGC (correct me if I'm wrong). Hence, I don't find anything ridiculous about that statement (though "dominated" is a strong word, but it did do better than expected). On the other hand, the prediction that the ps3 would be discontinued (considering the success is has been having since the release of the slim model in 2009) is at the very least funny.

In other words, the "chalkboard" did help.

I agree, people saying it would be discontinued were delusional, and so were the people who said that those games would catapult PS3 to the number 1 spot ahead of the other two consoles. It never happened, and it looks like it never will, the best they can now hope for is second place (if they're lucky).

The "chalkboard" may have helped, but none of those games ever accomplished what people hoped it would, not even close.

I remember most people saying that 2011 was going to be the best year for ps3 in terms of exclusives, not sales. Considering the fact that most games were sequels, I don't think most regular visitors actually thought they would have such an impact on sales.

I think you're downlplaying the turnaround the ps3 pulled. Can you think of a single console that managed to go from a dead last weekly/yearly position to a close first?  The ideas on the "chalkboard" helped the sales tremendously, hence the enthusiasm and praise by certain users. Even the Move helped sales a lot, even though it is considered a major failure chiefly by non ps3 fans/owners. Just look at the weekly sales the first month the Move was released.

Having said that, I see the same attitude from ps3 fans about the success of 3ds. After all the doom and gloom, it managed to have impressive sales and all I see is people pointing out the price cut. Sure, it did help, but how many people expected such massive difference in sales?

i can't say for sure, how crazy your prediction is cause it's likely true. PS3 was able it pull its ass in front of it looking (in my estimates) to finally out sell the 360 by yr.'s end 2013!

hey there's a crazy notion right their i think lol!

But you could compare the PS3 to the wii and find the sales gap might be to much.  Plus the nintendo franchises a

hmmmmmmmmm were you here in (2008 i know) 2010 when i made a post in a thread detailing how and when PS3 would outsell the Wii by the yr. 2016? or 2020, i can't really remember. well somebody else detailed my thought's but not accurately.

the final numbers were Wii 118-120m, and PS3 124/125m. i even sent Kow a message about it back then cause he asked me to post how it would be done. i also sent him a message reminding him about it, but he didn't remember it lol.

But the one thing about me is, i've always adjusted my numbers/findings over the past 2 yr.'s, before the patterns themselves changed. it's like a 3rd sight i guess you can say, and it seems everyone on vgc has one.

right now i can see all 7th gen. consoles settling around 105m, with PS3 and 360 staying on the market the longest, but MS will want to push nextbox next more so then 360, so in the end the PS3 will out last the other 7th gen. consoles.

the beauty is i don't have to be right. it's not a prediction, just analysis. i'm still over 90% with my predictions and analysis, but that doesn't matter, and i don't make many.

but yea, you can look at it like that, but it will only hold true if Wii doesn't continue it's led brick path, and PS3 stabilizes at a reasonable sales path over the course of it's life. in the end PS3 just ma win this war, but most of us won't care. it will likely receive some mention, but that's about it.

yea right lol!!! when it happens, watch the shit storm!!!!!

I've coming here since the end of 2006I don't think the ps3 will ever catch the Wii

I don't mind sh!t storms

i've been coming here since the end on 2006, became a member when you did in 08, and made this account in 2010. shit storms don't bother me either, i'm just tierd of seeing them needlessly, but i'll say we are long over do for one.

i need my calendar to mark when the next one comes. it's seasonal like the flu, and f'd up weather.

That's what I said in my previous post. It helped, but not to the degree people were hoping, certainly not to the point of dominance like a lot of delusional people were saying (kinda reminds me of this thread's OP).

you're spot on man. no console has ever come from dead last to likely, maybe, doubtfully take second place.

the core base of PS fans stay in the Vita thread. the others are fans of ninty ironically trying to keep the threads interesting.  case in point Jay520? hmmm i forget.

as a PS3 fan, when i see comments like this(knowing i bash the big 3 as a whole) gets my goat, but as an ailing ninty, i find myself asking, why we even bother with these drab comments.

is it fact PS3 fans have this same attitude? no it's not. is it true some PS fans have this same attitude? i'm sure it is, but we don't have enough fans from either side to use the word some on this site, or to even post a percentage. and i've yet to see a Sony fan spam 3ds, but i do remember one ninty fan that thought it worth getting bannd multiple times, by trolling the Vita thread. this user even created multiple accounts while being bannd to do so. (so obvious it's shameful)

never the  less, one is way to many, no matter which of the big3 they support.

while i'm not as active, i am around, so i see what goes on. i may miss things others see, but the use of Sony, ninty, or MS fan in that light is inaccurate. some works best.

What I don't understand is why Gilgamesh's predictions are getting such great attention. Has he predicted stuff accurately in the past or???

I was going to defend this prediction with the fact that it was made long ago, but I'll refrain from doing so thanks to Rol's post.

He gets attention because the stuff he says is so out of this world. His basic reasoning is always "Sony is awesome, so everyone else will fail" which becomes all the more obvious in the thread I linked to. His two main reasons for a PSV victory are:

1) Nintendo has dominated for a long time, so it's time that somebody else takes the lead. No substantional reasoning is given beyond that.

2) Nintendo's IPs can't sell forever, so their market will inevitably dry up. Their games have been selling for over two decades, so it must come to an end.

I do recall saying the PS3 and X360 will be outselling the Wii in the future 3 or 4 years ago when the Wii was peaking. A lot of people called me crazy on that one. The main fact is no one knows how things will end, doesn't matter how a console starts, it's how it ends.

Two things

1. I stand by my prediction still.

2. And when I made that prediction the 3DS was still at $250 then like a month later it got the $90 price drop. If it was still $250 we'd have a different story here.

Not too different though. Even when they were the same price, the 3DS outsold PSV by a lot during the same time frame, even though the PSV launched during the holidays...etc. However, that's not what happened. Thanks to the price cut, PSV hasn't got a chance.

Don't let it discourage you though, I kinda like your threads lol

Still not a SINGLE Resi game on any playstation portable console.

Still not a SINGLE good Sonic game on a playstation portable (come on, comparing Sonic Rvials 1 & 2 to Sonic Rush 1 & 2 or Sonic Colours is a joke)

Better quality Castlevania games on DS (and all 3 are top notch, trust me)

Sony need to understand that its not all about making watered down versions of their ps2/3 hits.

Simple as that.

It still does
