It was never crazy to begin with. I see some of you forgetting the power of Playstation.

Wait till Gran Turismo releases. Then we'll talk.

Price cut, Call of Duty, Monster Hunter.

Never heard the gran turismo saving theory before! One more and it's chalkboard time!

I've never understood the PS3 chalkboard. A lot of the things listed really DID contribute to saving the PS3.

Didn't you hear? It was discontinued in 2009.

Didn't you hear? PS3 dominated both Wii and Xbox360 and is currently the #1 selling current gen console.

In terms of exclusives, it is debatable, so I guess one could make such a claim. In terms of sales, it has been catching up both to wii and 360 and was #1 selling console the last 2 years according to VGC (correct me if I'm wrong). Hence, I don't find anything ridiculous about that statement (though "dominated" is a strong word, but it did do better than expected). On the other hand, the prediction that the ps3 would be discontinued (considering the success is has been having since the release of the slim model in 2009) is at the very least funny.

In other words, the "chalkboard" did help.

I agree, people saying it would be discontinued were delusional, and so were the people who said that those games would catapult PS3 to the number 1 spot ahead of the other two consoles. It never happened, and it looks like it never will, the best they can now hope for is second place (if they're lucky).

The "chalkboard" may have helped, but none of those games ever accomplished what people hoped it would, not even close.

I remember most people saying that 2011 was going to be the best year for ps3 in terms of exclusives, not sales. Considering the fact that most games were sequels, I don't think most regular visitors actually thought they would have such an impact on sales.

I think you're downlplaying the turnaround the ps3 pulled. Can you think of a single console that managed to go from a dead last weekly/yearly position to a close first?  The ideas on the "chalkboard" helped the sales tremendously, hence the enthusiasm and praise by certain users. Even the Move helped sales a lot, even though it is considered a major failure chiefly by non ps3 fans/owners. Just look at the weekly sales the first month the Move was released.

Having said that, I see the same attitude from ps3 fans about the success of 3ds. After all the doom and gloom, it managed to have impressive sales and all I see is people pointing out the price cut. Sure, it did help, but how many people expected such massive difference in sales?
