Forums - Gaming - So. 3DS vs Vita, now what?

I think sometimes these 'vs' stuff doesn't really matter. with this the 3ds will have a serious contender and us gamers will benefit in the end. so it's all good

GC/TGS will be key to understanding the full support behind Vita...so far so good

I can't help but think that a lot of the people who are now claiming the 3DS is "doomed" don't realize that the reasons they expect the PS Vita to destroy the 3DS could have been used to argue why the XBox would be more successful than the PS2.

While I'm not saying the outcomes will be similar, there are a lot of things Nintendo could do that would significantly improve their sales; and there are a lot of things that could happen to the PS vita which would prevent it from getting the sales (some) people would anticipate. The most obvious thing Nintendo could do is have several large third party exclusives announced for the 3DS that will be released before the PS Vita is even on the market.

Well, in Japan monster hunter would be able to counteract pokemon. But in the west I'd say pokemon locks it up for 3ds unless sony can crush it with quantity.

Time for hype

I don't know what Nintendo can do at this point besides drop price and push heavy on first party software as usual.

Vita currently has price parity ($249 wifi model), hardware superiority (spec per spec and more control input options), social connective superiority (Cross Game Chat!!! Finally), and online store superiority (monstrous PSN backlog at launch).

I own a 3DS with 1 game that I beat in 2 hours... its been kind of a bad investment so far, I hope there is some good software eventually. :*(

Needless to say, Vita is probably going to be my main system in the 8th gen.

Now I'm going to wait and see what happens and prolly buy Vita a few years down the road like I did the PSP. 3DS was a no shit because I already knew it'd get the support I want on it, but so far I don't care about any of the games on Vita, but that could always change. Basically, looking at UC3, and knowing it will be awesome in 3D has completely turned me off to the Vita UC atm.

Hmm, I do remember exercising the posibility that the Vita could launch for the same price as the 3DS, and I was criticized for it :P

I see this being a MUCH closer battle than the PSP vs DS lopsided one. Not only is Vita the same price as 3DS, but it seems to have a better library based off the announced games so far. I see Vita easilly taking Japan, while 3DS reigns in the US, with Europe being a wash.

Personally, neither console jumps out at me yet. I will probably just stick with my 360 and Wii/Cafe for my gaming needs. But honestly, if I HAD to chose between one of the new handhelds, at the moment I think I would go with the Vita. Of course, I will probably change my tune after the Nintendo conference in less than 24 hours :/

They'd better show off some 2D Mario/Mario Kart though dammit! Oh, and a Monster Hunter couldn't hurt either, though that may be on the Vita..

Presumably, it can also lock up third-party support, since such was conspicuously absent at the Sony conference. All the bullet points you laid out are true, and were true for the DS/PSP generation (sans price), but we all know it boils down to the games, and Vita doesn't seem to have those. Mind you, neither does the 3DS. :-/

Similar lineups, similar pricing. Nintendo does have the history of being able to dig themselves out of trouble with good software, but Sony seems to finally be bringing their A-game to handheld development. Pokemon could obviously crush anything Sony could come up with, but the game looks very different at that price point alone

Sony doesn't have an in-house IP that can beat Pokemon......but Capcom might be able to help them out, in Japan at least.

Monster Hunter vs. Pokemon, head to head in Japan.  Can't...wait. BOOM.

Any news on the games price?, that can affect the outcome. Also no release date, that means Nintendo can have all this year for them and lower the price next year, I am hearing January release date.

you do realize apart from the games announced that there are over 150 devs working on PSV titles right? Not saying they will all complte their projects or w/e but Vita has the support..LOTS of it
