And there was piracy before Geohot... why do people forget that?

before geohot this never happened :

www.gamefront.com/call-of-duty-multiplayer-now-unplayable-thanks-to-ps3 -hack/

you know before these games released: January 5th

StarDrone (PSN exclusive)
MicroBot (PSN)

January 11th

DC Universe Online (PC/PS3 exclusive)
Venetica

cod was fine to play, but after they released it wasn't.I think these devs need to be punished, look what they did to the psn.

http://www.ps3center.net/news/4940/ps3-releases-for-january-2011/

you lost me

I thought i would. I guess this convo is over. I know when I have hit a brickwall.

you lost me because you brought up something completely irrelevant to what we were discussing how do those games or the dates they were released correlate with hacks in an online game?

because its just as irrelevant as your point of geohot you know the one i qouted. Funny you couldn't see it. It comes down to you blaming geohot when you should be blaming the hackers that hacked the PSN. Thats all.

the difference is that because of his actions all of this occured so you still have me lost

again show me where he hacked the psn or pirated? Sony couldn't so I doubt you could. They are unrelated. ONe is legal to do one is not. You cant seem to reconcile this fact. I dont know what else to tell you.

i didn't say he did i said that he posted the most vital part of the hacking process therefore without him and thus the keys the majority of the hacking would not have occured

is that really that hard to understand?

so what are you saying the hacking ( for that period ) would have occured without him posting the keys?

i could care less if what he did was illegal or not the point is that what he did adversely affected sony, its partners and its customers adversely

And I am saying what he did did not do that. Blame the hackers that did. You are trying to put the blame on him instead of the hackers that caused the problme. Just seperate the isssues that is all. What you are doing is putting piracy is the same boat as consumer rights. other hacker aldready had those keys. if i rember correctly he was not even the one who found them. So again he did not casue your problems with PSN or piracy

"And I am saying what he did did not do that" he did not do what? this :

http://psgroove.com/content.php?598-GeoHot-Releases-Metldr-Key-All-PS3-Keys-Now-Vulnerable

so you mean to tell me that him releasing those keys did not result in an explosion in hacks? and that events like these ( that only happened after his release of the keys ) were not contributed to in anyway by his actions above? if so im afraid i'm the one who has hit a brick wall

www.gamefront.com/call-of-duty-multiplayer-now-unplayable-thanks-to-ps3 -hack

him doing hacks or piracy on his own is not the problem never was but when he does things that affects consumers then hes taking it way too far which is what he did

if your not going to read my points and comment on them there is not point in going forward in this argument. Sorry. I already posted a response to what you just wrote. look up a few post.

I'm so over hackers...............

God that's fine if you've got beef with Sony but take it out on them, all these attacks are hurting us as consumers.  Why can't we just play our games in peace.

Why can't some people just use their ps3 as they please? Why must sony go on a rampage and take people to court? They just want to use their equiptement as they please, I mean they did buy it.

They took one person to court for releasing their trade secrets to the whole world, which could have financially devastating effects on their business.  It's not crazy, absurd or in any way outlandish.  It's smart business by Sony as they have plenty of attorneys sitting around on payroll.

They didn't hurt this poor wittle guy.  They got him away from their products (And he signed off on it).

Did you miss the not trade secrets... and not allowed to take him to court for it post?

Hooray though, the big company took someone to trial for something that wasn't illegal and got him to sign a paper to not touch their products because he didn't want to be in a protracted legal battle with a multinational corproation.

If you actually think that's a good thing... I don't even know where one would start.

Looks like nothing happened today after all :)

No idea what we were all worried about xD

Odd, he did get taken to court and agreed to a deal that sounds awfully similar to a non-disclosure contract that an employee would have to sign.

Oh right, it's not a trade secret because you said so.  Gotcha.  ;)

I do think it's a good thing for Sony.  He can't outright Jailbreak any of their forseeable products without facing legitimate consequences.  He obviously is intelligent enough to Jailbreak just about anything, so atleast on a security side it's a minor sense of security.

Why not get into a protracted legal battle with Sony?  If he is completely in the right and has nothing to fear?  Why not?   A few court dates?

Sony could have made things a lot more uncomfortable for him.  The point was they didn't want him cracking their products and releasing trade secrets to the public (Who isn't at his level).    That's why Sony took him to court. That is what they set out to accomplish and they ultimately reached that goal.

People who hate Sony will still hate Sony after that, most logical types will realize this happens constantly with large corporations in a variety of manners it's not a big deal and never was.

exactly thats my point dsist6er who obviously didn't play the game on psn doesn't understand that

It wasn't unplayable as you said... I doubt you played it during the time either. You are going on two forum posters opinions that it was unplayable. I'm going on what a couple of friends were saying... that it was in fact playable.

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

i own a ps3 and played it so i was speaking from experience... the issues were a widespread problem affecting my friends also

edit: obviously when i say "unplayable" im not saying that the game cannot be loaded up and that you can't get online im actually saying that the cheating reached a point where trying to play competitively against people fairly became very difficult because the cheating was so prevelant

Just wait some. Given Sony's previous practice we may learn of it next week.

No... it's not a trade secret because the law says so.

And again, people generally settle when facing a multimillion dollar coperation because said multi-million dollar corporation just tends to extend the shit out of lawsuits until the person they are sueing is bankrupt and has to give up anyway since lawyers aren't guranteed in civil trials.

It's basically the largest failing of our justice system.  Big companys can fuck over little guys and small buisnesses just by tying things up legistlativly.
