And there was piracy before Geohot... why do people forget that?

before geohot this never happened :

www.gamefront.com/call-of-duty-multiplayer-now-unplayable-thanks-to-ps3 -hack/

you know before these games released: January 5th

StarDrone (PSN exclusive)
MicroBot (PSN)

January 11th

DC Universe Online (PC/PS3 exclusive)
Venetica

cod was fine to play, but after they released it wasn't.I think these devs need to be punished, look what they did to the psn.

I thought i would. I guess this convo is over. I know when I have hit a brickwall.

you lost me because you brought up something completely irrelevant to what we were discussing how do those games or the dates they were released correlate with hacks in an online game?

Kasz are you out ther? you explained so well in the other psn threads i will leave this to you, hope you read it.

I will give the short version, the case was a wash neither side won or lost, no new case law was created and we will be in the same boat when the ps4 gets hacks. I will agree geohot did wi either, but nor did he loose. It was a wash

That all depends on how you interpret it or what YOU think Sony had in mind for it's end goal.  They weren't after money (Geohot doesn't have any), they weren't after jail time (It was a civil suit).

In my opinion, Sony wanted him to not be allowed to publicly do his work on any Sony products or future products for the forseeable future,  as he essentially figured out their trade secrets and obviously is mentally capable of breaking numerous products.  If he disregards this agreement and it's provable, he can and probably will be liable for even more severe penalties down the road.

Smart business is making money, and keeping your customers happy and looking like a company that knows what it is doing.

I'm sorry but I don't fault Sony for getting attacked by the hacking community.  I don't fault them for protecting their products.  They are a business, they survive and the people who work for them survive by them making money, not losing money because some people believe they should be able to circumvent buying software.

Sony could probably careless about shitty consumers who want to steal as many of their products as possible.   They do care about their paying customers and their general well-being.

From what sony has done, they have lost the faith of some customers, they made theire whole network security look like a joke to rational consumers.

Maybe so.  It's not the first time nor last time that a company has been hacked.  The Pentagon was hacked into recently,  I'm not losing faith in our government because of that.

If it can be built, it can be broken.

They have cost their bottom line in the fact they are paying more money to secure their networks now and have to foot the bill for identity theft protection. Where in that was good busness sense?

Unless you're a stock holder how does that remotely apply to you?  I mean this is just typical fanboy ammunition that doesn't affect anything but stockholders or company members.

It's certainly no worse than rushing the Xbox 360 to the market with known defects and then spending billions to repair all the defected consoles to avoid litigation and investigation on the matter.

And they have the same priacy problem they would have they not made those decisons. Not too mention all this drama is not over yet apparently. Where in that was the good business choices?

News at 11,  Big Global Corporation isn't perfect and in fact makes plenty of mistakes!  Microsoft, Apple, (Name about 1000000000 others) all do the same thing.   Get over it.    Stop fretting over worthless stuff.

Yeah Sony is the cool thing to talk about on the net nowadays.  In 6 months it will be something else.   That is how it goes.

You said my statement was incorrect and contradicted me with a statement from another forum poster... Did you play the game at the time? Like I said in an earlier post, I heard from friends that play CoD 6. And I see no reason why they would lie to me about it being playable.

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

because its just as irrelevant as your point of geohot you know the one i qouted. Funny you couldn't see it. It comes down to you blaming geohot when you should be blaming the hackers that hacked the PSN. Thats all.

Ok I will back you up here.

Yes, Call of Duty in that time period was unplayable, so unplayable that I went out and bought the XBOX 360 version.

MW2 has been fixed now but COD4 still suffers a bit.

To all of the above, you said "smart business decision"I was respnind as if i was sony and what would have been smart for them, so yes it would of come of as how they run their business and would it amke money, that is genraly thought of as smart business decisions.  I am a fan of no corporation I agree they all do a lot of wrong, feel free to make as monay threads about those other comapnies as you please.  We will proably agree in those since they dont involve sony. Bu for thread its about sony, so please stick to the topic.

the difference is that because of his actions all of this occured so you still have me lost

edit : but i guess you seem to believe that this would have happened regardless of if the most vital part of the hacking wasn't posted so i guess we have to agree to disagree

again show me where he hacked the psn or pirated? Sony couldn't so I doubt you could. They are unrelated. ONe is legal to do one is not. You cant seem to reconcile this fact. I dont know what else to tell you.

For your point to make sence " his actions" would have to involve hacking the psn or piracy. You are trying to give him credit for actions he did not commit. I am doing the same thing, the release of those games had nothing to do with hacking the psn or piracy, but they happened before the event of the cod hacking. So by your logoic they are to blame. Seems kind of stupid huh?
