Ok, so the Wii came out later, had old tech, and had competition. Not exactly the qualities I look for in consoles, but different strokes I suppose. Would the Wii still be the 'greatest console ever made' if it had all those qualities and sold 10 million? If not, it seems like sales are the determining factor. Saying the PS2 had no competition and saying the Wii sold to a new audience are different things, sure. However they are both done for the same reason, to lessen the accomplishments of the console. They are just excuses to explain why the consoles sold as they did. That is why it was so ridiculous for you to jump on someone and call them a hater when you had done essentially the same thing a few posts earlier. |
In my opinion yes....I said it is the greatest console ever "IN MY OPINION" If you take that the wrong way....thats your opinion. If you say the PS2 is.....thats fine, that would be "YOUR OPINION".....do you understand that ?

Wii is still selling well, maybe not as good as a few years back, but still, the wii is not going anywhere, and this holiday season is going to sell a lot again, less than PS3/360? Maybe, but it is ok, its succesor is just around the corner...
Actually this year seems like a very good year gaming-wise for the wii, Zelda (probably GOY IMO), xenoblade, last story, wii motion plus (I really liked wiiparty), and who knows how many new games is nintendo going to show this year at the e3 for the wii (2 or 3 maybe, I guess), so I think it should be fine.
As a nintendo fan (no fanboy) I feel really happy with thier games for the wii: Zelda TP, mario Galaxy 1 & 2, mario kart wii, metroid prime 3, metroid OM, DKCR, sin & punishment, smash bros brawl, kirby epic yarn, fire emblem, new super mario bros, wario, wii play... I think they could have done a better job maybe adding pikmin, fzero, starfox, baten kaidos, custom robo and some new IPS, nintendo needs new Ips, xenoblade, last story and pandora´s tower is a good start, but they need to do a little bit more...

Software profit on the other hand would be more enlightening. |
If it was meaningless then thats the reason why the Wii had all that amazing third party support, huh? There are very good reasons why the best selling third party Nintendo franchise Just Dance started at $40. Much of the Wii third party software didn't sell unless it was $40 or less and by the time you've covered Nintendo's cut, retailers cut, publishing costs etc you have very little left to pay for development and advertising.
Tease.

Someone calling Wii a fad, gimmick, selling to the wrong people are haters....theres no other way to describe it. They hate the console. All i said was PS2 sales were due to no competition. I loved PS2 i had 2 of them. I will say it again. There is a difference between saying "High sales due to no competition" and "High sales due to selling to Non-Gamers"
One is acknowledges sales, while the other dismisses sales.

And why does that make revenue important at all. If you spend tons of money making a game and it doesn't sell, you have massive revenue, but negative profit. Whereas a small budget title that breaks even will be sucessfull even though the revenue was small.
All revenue will tell you is where companies put most of their recources. Why is this important? Just becuase a market has bigger amounts of cash flowing through it one direction or the other doesn't mean anything when profits and other factors, like number of customers are not taken into account. Even the analogy you made was about profits and not revenue (It's harder to profit with a cheaper price tag).
So I ask you again, why is revenue important?
I LOVE ICELAND!

PS2 sold as much as it did because it had no competition?
No, PS2 sold as much as it did because it brought the thing that mattered most. Games.
Wii won't outsell the PS2 because as of right now it is not bringing that which matters most. Games.
Do we discount the PS1 as well because of "no competition"? Please answer this one.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Come to think of it, growing up I had a FANTASTIC time with my NES. I have some of my most fond memories with my NES. I honestly always thought it could have been the best console of all time.
Unfortunatetly though that can never be true...
NES had no competition.

Revenue per game matters. If you can sell a game for $60 vs $40 on the Wii it makes a significant difference. Once you take away publishing expenses and retailer margins the actual margin per game sold @ $40 is aproximately half that of the game sold @ $60. If you were making 2* the margin on the HD consoles and selling aproximately twice as many copies on top of that then it would explain your desire to continue selling those kinds of games.

Um no....PS2 had no competition. And the Wii is up against. 360, PS3.
PS1 only had to deal with Sega Saturn....massive competition. I mean it sold a whopping 9.5 Million.
And where the heck do you see me discount sales........Please answer this one
