I know you say it is not your reasoning, but the only thing I have seen as your reasoning is that the Wii is "knocking on the PS2's door" despite having to deal with competition.

 

If the PS3 somehow ends up approaching and/or passing the Wii lifetime it will be due to the constant release of high quality 1st and 3rd party titles. The same thing that brought us the most memorable and highest selling consoles in each previous generation.

Yeah well the best JRPGs I have ever played deserve to have their consoles in the top 2 spots.

NES Zelda propels the NES to #3 since it is my favortite game of all time.

1) The PS2 was the 1st, 6th Generation Console to be released. It had a Year and 1 Month sales lead on either Xbox or the GameCube. The PS2 had absolutly no competition againt it. Thats one reason why it's numbers are so high.

2) The Wii on the other hand was released at the same time as the PS3, 1 Year after the 360. We are talking about a Console that was way behind in technology, and had 2 current Generation Consoles to contend with. And was still able to outsell them. Theres no wonder the Wii cant catch up to the PS2 sales, the PS2 had a massive advantage. But even seeing the Wii knock at the PS2's door is absolutly amazing, thats what makes it.....in my opinion.....the greatest console ever made.

Actually, the PS2 had plenty of competition.  Dreamcast was the first 6th gen console, and was launched about 1 1/2 years before the PS2.  It was quite successful upon release, selling 1/2 million 2 weeks after launch in the US alone.  However, the PS2, along with poor business decisions, turned out to be too much for Sega to handle.  About a 1 1/2 years after the PS2 launched, the Gamecube and the much hyped Xbox was released.  Around that time many analysts thought it would be a close race between the 3 for the majority of the gen.  Of course, we know how that turned out.  So that's 3 competitor's Sony had to thwart.  No competition, my butt.

These top 5s lacking the N64 is disgusting.

The console pretty much set the standard for everything we are playing today except for JRPGs.....which people only play  on handhelds now anyways.

Action Adventure, FPS, Flight Simulation, Sports, Third-Person Shooter, and Fighting. GTFOH with that garbage.
