We all know Nintendo in the past has scrapped a console. That console being Virtual Boy which Nintendo swept under the rug when it failed. Assuming Nintendo can't turn 3DS around and NGP kills it off this winter. Could Nintendo scrap 3DS?

Nintendo talked in 2004 that if DS failed they could always fall back on GBA and that platform would continue being supported. Well if 3DS fails could Nintendo keep the DS going strong long enough to give them time to launch another platform? Or long enough to let them keep it another generation?

Is Nintendo in a position where the option of scrapping is illogical? Does Nintendo even have a choice?

If Nintendo scrapped 3DS and released a new handheld in 2013 would they be able to recapture ground? Would it be too soon to launch another platform?

Disclaimer - I don't think Nintendo should scrap 3DS, I just think it would be interesting to get users opinions since Nintendo has scrapped hardware before. Is it an option for Nintendo and if so why? If not why not?

I will put my own 2 cents in later in the thread!

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

I think this is a bit alarmist.

Way to soon in my opinion.  Sales will most likely follow the games.  This is a big gap of not many gams for sure, but you have to think sales will follow the usualy Pokemons and Mario Karts.  Nintendo deserves the benefit of the doubt with handhelds lol.

Why the hell for?

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Regardless of whether it was financially feasible this is what I have to say: NO. It's the next installment for their portable line so they're not going to scrap it. That would be STUPID

I guess nobody read the disclaimer. Don't take the thread to be my opinion in any way (refering to Alarmist and joke image reply). Somebody asked me if Nintendo would scrap the 3DS if the NGP crushed it this winter and Nintendo saw sales dip even lower then they are now.

I of course said no, but I thought users might have some input on the hypothetical question so I descided to ask here.

I'm glad to see so many of you agree with me, I'll go into greater detail later, I am late for church so I can't right now!

3DS costs just over $100 to make.

They're selling them for $250.

They wont drop it while they can still make that much money out of people.

no, i think it's an illogical thing to do. and what you painted is a very unlikely scenario. it's a lot more probable that 3ds will slaughter ngp.

I cannot stress enough...

Nintendo has not released any heavy hitters yet! Before the 3DS launched, 3rd parties comprised a list that included over 150 titles! When these 150 titles all release and the 3DS is still somehow getting beat by the NGP...they STILL will keep it around.

If Nintendo "fails", they will be profitably failing. Big difference.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

 WTF is this shit?...

Edit: That scenario is so out of the question that it shouldn't even be considered.

Edit 2: Attoyou's post nails my reaction. xD
