Forums - Gaming - Has the Wii failed as a gamer console?

In your opinion third party titles are crap in the Wii. But in my opinion Just Dance is more fun than every single HD title a I've already played on my PC. Everyone has its own opinion and most of Wii owners have completely values different from PS360 owners, so this is why is so hard to most of PS360 owners understand why the Wii is by far the best seller console of this gen.

For example, let’s talk about graphics. What are graphics for an ordinary PS360 owner? Resolution, number of polygons, shadows, etc. However for a Wii owner graphics are just beauty. This why an ordinary Wii owner thinks that Mario Galaxy or Kirby's Epic have better graphics than Uncharted or Alan Wake.

I'm sorry but what a load of BS!!!!

HD consoles have games that excel in art style and also ones in purely technical level....art style is subjective but since you are going on about mario galaxy etc..i think I have an idea about what you're ranting about here...you are just misinformed or lack knowledge about such games on HD consoles...doesn't mean they are not there...

lol @  'beauty'...such a subjective thing isn't it? for me standing in that Nepalese village on top of Himalayas, was a thing of beauty...so please spare us with this nonsense

OT: For fans of Ninty franchises? nope

i don't think it has failed.

1) his first party games are better than the cube counterparts and on par or better than the N64 counterparts

2) it has a huge library of really good third party niche games

3) it succesfully expanded the market

4) it introduced motion gaming that was later embraced by all console makers

it could be seen as a failure only by people who only care about big blockbuster-like games and graphic whores

and let's wait until the nostalgia effect kicks inn... just look at how higly regarded is the gamecube now, even if it was the worst nintendo console ever.

It really depends on if you really love Nintendo first party games. I personally am not ZOMGZORS over them so yeah I think the Wii library is pretty terrible. Now for someone who really does like Nintendo 1st party a lot then I would say it isn't a bad one but it isnt great either due to the severe lack of good 3rd party games on the console.

I'd say yes. It's library, although it does have a few great titles (the Mario Galaxies, Corruption), pales in comparison to any of their previous four consoles. Such was the price Nintendo paid for all their success.

Nah. Its just obscured by the superior libraries of the PS3 and X360. Otherwise, it's pretty good. Heck, given that Wii2 isn't due to come yet, I'll probably get one new.

I wouldn't say that either console has a superior library, unless we're talking about 3rd party mulitplat titles...

The Wii has, IMO, the biggest range of games, with quality games in the 2D and 3D platformer, Action and/Adventure, (J)RPG, FPS, TPS, Action RPG, Sports, On-Rail shooters, racing, Strategy, and many others.

Maybe the PS3 has a library on-par with it, but I wouldn't say that either is 'better', just catered to different audiences.

Also- PS2 is Shovelware king. 2,500 games with less than 100 worth buying...

First: when you say the library it means all games, first plus 3rd party plus online games etc etc...

Second: do you HONESTLY believe what you typed? (the bolded)

@amp316 dont think his intent was to troll, it is a legimate question

OT: Selnor pretty much hit the nail on the head.   IMHO i think anyone who says that only people who care about the next blockbuster hate Wii is full of crap. There are alot of great games that are simply either missing on Wii are just vastly inferior. MvsC2&3, SF4, Soul Calibur 4, Orange BOx, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect series, Fallout, Portal 2, etc. I'll be here all day listing good games that arent on WIi. THe library is just lacking in some key titles. for me at least. Yes PS2 had shovelware, but open your eyes and realize that for everyone one shovelware game it got, there was 2 great games with it. for Wii for every 5 shovelware Imaginez games it get you might get one good game from 3rd parties. Wii's library is weak because 3rd parties made it so. I never feel into the catergory of Ninty being "kiddie" family friendly maybe. I loved GC and i think that that system had better support than Wii

I most absolutely would. I don't see why is it that you want to count them out, they are a legit part of any library. And lol @ you ragging on the PS2, Less than 100 worth buying? Try 200 worth buying (and if it's a list you want, you'll get it). The PS2 runs circles around the Wii, again, again, and again. It runs circles around any console in existence, this gen or any gen prior (IMO).

I'll give Wii Platformers, action/adventure, and On rail shooters. Every other genre? It's severely lacking. No sim racer, with the 360 having 4 I can think of and the PS3 having 2 (that is, of games that I played). TPS? There are none unless you take RE4 for TPS (I'll not even dare to compare them to what you can get on the HD duo to save the Wii the embrassment). FPS? GoldenEye is pretty good, so is BOPS Wii. Everything else you can pass on. JRPG's? It has, off the top of my head, 6 of them, some not even out in the west and one not out yet outright (and without any footage, to boot - DQ X). Both the 360 and the PS3 have more. I can go on.

edit: apparently I'm not the only one who is genuinely amused.

Let me see:

2D -3D paltformer - Yes, easy.

Acttion/Adventure - Zelda is not enough. Okami is just a port.

JRPG - Xenoblade is one of the best of this gen. The Last Story is good. Both aren't big meltdowns...

FPS - Goldeneye. Not enough.

TPS - RE4 is a port.

Action RPG - Is Pandora's Tower the only one on Wii?

Sports - Yes.

On rail shooters - Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles. Yes.

Racing - lol no. MK Wii is fun and good, but no.

Strategy - Has Wii any game of this genre? Maybe Little King Story?

So, I doubt Wii has quality games of all genres.
