Yes the story is the driver, by I cant find fault with the gameplay. And the graphics, yes I know thats a lame driver, but because they go to places that dont get much coverage in video games (ie crusades, renaissance) it adds a lot to the look.

The French Revolution is a time period I always thought they could do, so am not going to complain. Others I think they could make work are the Russian Revolution and the Great Depression (yes I know is close to WW2, which theyve said they wont do, but the pre-war period is often overlooked and would be an interesting setting). Also I know the American Colonial has been rumoured before and I think that could work as well. Thinking if all of this, I understand what they mean when they say they could make 35 AC games. Right now, wouldnt complain if they did.

The female assassin character also seems interesting development.

Also, anyone think if they waited about 20 years, they could plausibly make a decent game set around what going on in the Middle East/North Africa now?
