Killzone 3 Sells 500,000 Units Worldwide Week One

VGC can reveal that Sony's latest exclusive title, Killzone 3 has sold 500,000 units worldwide in its first week for the PS3. Sony sold half of the units in the Americas, and half in EMEAA.

Roughly 50,000 of the 500,000 units were bundled with PS3 hardware, so there should be a modest lift for PS3 hardware during the week.

The previous Killzone game, Killzone 2 released in 2009 and sold 750,000 units week one for the PS3. Killzone 2 went on to sell 2.58m units worldwide, more than tripling its week one figures over the past two years.

A slight decline over Killzone 2, which I actually expected so its in line with what I thought it would do so far.

My estimate was spot on! Lower first week due to less hype, but hopefully will have better legs.

Time for hype

It's good but a not-so-nice decline. I hope it shows nice legs though. I'm kinda curious with the move controller vs. regular controller battles though. So I might pick this up sometime this year.

These disappointing sales are not worthy of an exclamation point!

Hopefully it shows better legs than Killzone 2.

Sad. Sad. Sad. The first game with audio and subtitles in pt-BR deverves more a lot more.

Disappointing? didn't we all expect lower week 1's

As I have said on the article page, it's too bad it didn't outsell Killzone 2 but I kind of see it having better legs considering there's a bundle this time and there's Move.

Bulletstorm might have eaten on Killzone 3's first week numbers as well.

All in all those sales aren't too bad considering it didn't quite get received as well as Killzone 2.

Did it launch in Japan this week?

If not Killzone 2 did 700K in NA/EMEAA Week 1

Its a 200K difference, it could be made up if it has better legs.

Within the past month, yeah, but a few months ago I never would've imagined that would happen.  I thought it'd roughly match Killzone 2's opening week, and possibly do better.  The game's been advertised more heavily than Killzone 2 afterall.

Though Killzone 2 had cinema ads and a red carpet opening in Europe, and that didn't happen for Killzone 3, so maybe it's just had better advertising in NA.

That's a 29% difference.  Pretty significant.

Well Killzone 2 did 350K in EMEAA and 350K in NA week 1...so basically equal.

Killzone 3 according to the article did 250K in EMEAA and 250K in NA too.

So despite worse/better marketing its down by 100K in each region for launch.
