Star Wars was a bigger film franchise if adjusted for inflation... :)

{damage control mode on} AND If we look at ticket sales Episode 3 is still the biggest ticket seller after Avatar in the last decade (2001-2010) in America...the only country that exists! {damage control mode off}

Yeah Episode 4 alone made like more than 2 Billion adjusted for inflation or something crazy like that

It's actually true, not even a damage control.

But If we're using inflation as an excuse that only meant that

a story about love>>>>>>>>>>>>>> every film made even star wars... :P

I doubt Ep 4 made $2billion if we keep on adjusting it for inflation though. And Ep.3's international gross is pretty low... So I doubt it would reach Avatar's overall gross. Anyway, I think Inflation is not a very good comparison for classic films and modern films . It'll only meant the competition wasn't as rough before than now.

While I know I'll be watching T3 and HPp2 in the theaters, I am 100% sure Cars 2 will destroy everything else US and Worldwide. The only potential exception would be Kung Fu Panda 2, but I am pretty sure Pixar's Cars 2 will be triumphant.

I'll be watching T3 in 3D at IMAX with at least my two boys.

HPp2 in normal with probably full family.

Cars 2 in 3D with full family.

Others listed will be via other sources.

The first Cars made $461 million WW, what makes you think that the sequel will more than double it's predecessor's gross?

Doubt it, but not saying it's impossible but Cars didn't even break the $500M barrier worldwide. Unless we're talking about merchandises then Cars 2 would annihilate all of its competition.

1. The first Cars was well, the first one of an uknown franchise. Think about how much better Toy Story  3 did as compared to the others, hint it more than doubled them.

2. Disneyland has a whole new area/ride to premier along with the movie.

3. Because I love Disney and Pixar. :P

[damage control mode on] Well when Gone With The Wind released there was no movie piracy, not the same amount of competition and people had nothing better to do than go n see the same film again n again n again trololol {damage control mode off}

I just realized, by 2019 (sequel trilogies launch year) Avatar itself would have become the highest grossing franchise counting inflation considering Avatar 2/3 are 2013/2014 releases....and if avatar 2/3 do business like Avatar 1 then star wars is 2nd forever

Amen to that brother.

I see the movie doing better than the first Cars, especially in the World Wide market. The movie takes place in Japan with a supporting cast that includes Michael Caine, so it's not just a "NASCAR movie" like some thought the first one was. So yes, I think it'll do better, but I still wont think it'll take down Harry Potter.

Ummm. Toy Story 3 actually did better than its predecessors because of inflation and 3D ticket price, it was critically acclaimed and the last film of the series to be shown and released after a decade hiatus.

I love Pixar too. I like Disney animated films when I was younger though.
