Forums - Sales - Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles underperform in sales :-(

Many predicted this title will sell better than RE4Wii and will reach easily the million in sales. And it seemed so: It started phenomenal in japan and better than RE4 in the US. But the sales dropped fast. And now this: last week even the old RE4 sold more than RE:UC in the US and the same in europe. Only in Japan it dominates it's predecessor. So I have to doubt, this title will become a million-seller (RE4 barely reached the million). That's somehow sad. What do you think about it?

Whaha... U'r one funny guy. RE4 is now at 1.1 million and climbing at 50-60k a week Ww... It has already shown it has great legs due to not going lower then 30k a week Ww during its ~20 weeks it has been on the market.

Those are some real legs and, as it looks to me, it will outperform the Gamecube and PS2 version eventually (will take till end of 2008) RE4 GC did 1.6 million and RE4 PS2 did something similar if i recall correctly

RE:UC will reach a million, not fast, but somewhere in March/April 08 (it's selling at a rate of ~50k a week and droping, it's a given it'll breach Capcom's 620k expectation mark, which it'll pass next week)...!

i will get RE:UC just been flat out at work now that I work.

I will enjoy it but definelty not as much as RE:4.

Onrails is jsut for when you drunk and want to shoot.

Umbrella Chronicles was expected to sell 600k in its lifetime. It's currently at 500k in less than a month and a half.

This game has hardly underperformed, it in fact may have single handedly clinched Resident Evil's place on the Wii this generation.

In addition to this Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition was expected only to sell 450,000 copies in its lifetime. It has since gone on to sell 1,180,000 copies, nearly three times its initial prediction.

Tow things are really going against this title (and I have said this before):

1) It is a rail shooter (niche at best).

2) It is full priced.

If the game were say, 29.99 or even 39.99, you could expect much better legs. But a rail shooter for fifty dollars is just not going to cut it these days.

The game is good fun with two players though. It just seems people are not going to take that kind of chance with that kind of price tag.

This is a conspiracy theory.

When it launched in Canada it was 29.99$, I grabbed it right away at EBGames. By the end of the week, EBGames and a few other retailers brought the price up to 49.99$. They realized the game was going to be a hit after the first week and raised the price. Capcom had an MSRP of 29.99$ U.S. on the title, no one is selling it for the MSRP. There is also a chance that Capcom realized last minute that they could sell it full price and make way more money so they upped the price on future shipments of the game. I don't know what happened. I just know that the game launched here in Canada at EBGames, Best Buy and Futureshop for 29.99-34.99$. It's no longer that price at any of the stores.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Give it a break, it's been out for 5 weeks and have 500k.
You thought it would outsell Metroid Prime 3? That one hasn't sold a million yet!!!

I'm worried because it sold last week fewer copies than RE4Wii in the US.

QFT - nothing else matters.

I'm sure Capcom is hating the fact that its only sold 500k in less than its first month on sale. Boohoo!

It's funny, Uncharted gets 500k sales and it's not a failure. RE:UC does better and it's a failure. And Uncharted probably cost several times the development budget of RE:UC.

I'll admit it's underselling my predictions. I tried to lock Naznatips into a bet that it would hit 1 mill by february. And that's highly unlikely now. But it's still selling quite well thanks to a large opening. It is suprising that it's sales are dropping the extent that they are despite it being the Christmas season, but As it is a good game it should still sell well throughout the year.

And as for the rail shooter argument. Part of the reason those normally sell poorly is because you have to get it with the gun. I think the Wii will make rail shooters a viable commercially successfull genre.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.
