Forums - Nintendo - Take-Two thinks GTA on Wii is laughable

And even the more profitable part is really suspect, unless you have actual figures to back up your claim.

Part of me thinks that people would be up in arms if they were to put a GTA on the Wii (not the gamers obviously). I'm thinking it'll be less of a protest that Manhunt 2 is/was, but I think people would still freak.

If they had any brains, they'd at least port the GTA 3 trilogy onto Wii. They could start with the slightly enhanced XBox trilogy, and throw on some tight controls similar to the Godfather: Blackhand Edition, and maybe tweak the graphics or throw in a random bonus weapon or something. It wouldn't cost too much, and it could be discounted as whatever anniversary edition, and it could make them back all the money they blew on Manhunt 2.

Basically, your point seems to be that the Wii games don't sell is because the system is so far behind. That is BS. Microsoft has been making deals left and right to emphasize their system in marketing.

I approve of that, since I think they actually want a presence in the game market, and not just to hurt Sony. But the fact is that you'd be lying to pretend that the marketing has less to do with those sales than the system's power.

I was talking cheaper after completion meaning they make more money on each unit sold.

The term is "more profitable" Cheaper means it costs less to sell or make.

I was not thinking in terms of development costs because the systems have much different capabilities.

I will (more then willingly) concede that the Wii has lowest upfront development costs... It is a less complex and less capable platform so that is a given... Just like PS3 is most expensive because it is the most complex platform, but also the most capable. Surprise, 360, is 2nd in cost to develop and 2nd in capabilities.

That wasn't my point... My point was after you develop your product the potential income per unit sold is higher on 360...

You do have a valid point.  From a straight accounting standpoint (Which is the one that really counts)...

But you have to agree that at a certain level of sales 360 becomes cheaper because it is at least $1-2 less royalties per unit and you can usually charge $10 more per game at retail (Most Wii triple A games sell for $49.99 whereas they sell for $59.99 or $69.99 on 360)...  Where that cut off is depends on the upfront development costs.

They aren't investing because they know that a title on the Wii cannot hold a candle to a similar title on 360 or PS3... Wii is the modestly above "LastGen" processing machine with a really cool and fun motion controller... Don't get me wrong. I love my Wii... But you're never going to see anything like Gears, Resistance, Halo, or Drake's Fortune on it... Why do you think Take Two was laughing at GTA on the Wii? Because it is not possible to do it at the level GTA IV is.

I have MP3 and Mario Galaxy... Sorry, they are nothing compared to Halo 3, Resistance, Gears, or Drake's Fortune. They are great games, but the realism and immersiveness of the environments don't compare.

360 and PS3 are modestly above "LastGen" controls.  Halo and CoD don't compete with MP3 in terms of accuracy or immersive controls. And you continue to miss the point!

Money and time don't just buy graphics. They buy a carefully crafted gameplay experience. They buy an engaging story. They buy voice acting. They buy tight controls and replay value. Any or all of these things could be had if a budget is spent wisely, and they can all be put into a Wii game just like they can all be put into a PS3 game. The less budget you spend, the more compromises you have to make, the fewer people are interested in your game.

MP3 and SMG are great games because Nintendo was willing to spend the necessary money and take the necessary time to make them what they are. Same goes for nearly every good game ever made. No third party dev team has yet tried to match that commitment on Wii. Hence Nintendo software flies off the shelves, and the shovelware gathers dust.

And I notice you've stopped trying to argue that Wii doesn't move software, since it obviously does. How gracious of you to concede that point.

Gameplay is king, I agree...  Different consoles are better at different types of gameplay...  360 online, Wii motion controls, PS3 balanced between the two (just trying to be nice)...

We may or may not agree about software selling on Wii...  I think that 3rd party titles are "unproven" on the Wii outside of successful franchises such as Resident Evil, God Father, Man Hunt, Sonic, etc...  The only other 3rd party that has done really good on Wii is Carnival Games and Red Steel.

GTA on Wii would be awesome. Think about it... Using the wiimote as a gun... Using the wiimote to drive a car... Using the wiimote as a baseball bat, or crow bar...

"Unproven" is something I can agree with. I just wish somebody would grow a pair, take the plunge and either prove it or disprove it.
