Retro gets a tad to much praise. Its easy to take a already established IP and add to it

Lets see how they fair with a original IP

Let retro do a new IP and then this would be fare. At this point they are only making games that have already been established.

How did this happen? Seriously?

In their prime? Close. Right now? Retro, and it's been that way since the 2000's kicked off. What was the last project Rare even put out that's worth speaking of?

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Definitively Retro !

I hope we'll see them again on next Metroid. Sakamoto was a mistake, a bad, bad mistake.

Sakamoto co-created the series and delivered the definitive Metroid.  He's earned a mistake or two.

Retro delivered nothing but overrated half-Metroids, I'm glad they moved on to a series they can actually do justice.

Today: Retro easily!

Compared histories: Rare easily!

I LOVE ICELAND!

u joking right?

Rare (at their best) was more diverse, inventive and prolific, but I'd say Retro (at their best) is more polished and really just puts out better games.  Rare was always in EAD's shadow, Retro I think stands as one of EAD's peers.

You're blowing my mind, here.

That's rather insulting for Rareware to be compared to Retro.

No. There's nothing insulting about being compared to the developer with the best classic to crap ratio this side of Team Ico.

Wut?

Comparing the new Rare vs the current Retro is okay but one has to remember that neither DKCR nor Metroid Prime would be alive if it weren't from Rareware's DKC and Goldeneye. They were la crème de la crème.

I don’t see how the prime games have anything to do with rare :P

I mean that Rare innovated so much with Goldeneye. They are the ones who implemented the genre on a mass scale.

And now every single game is a first person shooter. And last gen, every game was a sandbox game. And the gen before that, everything was a Mario 64 clone. Piss on this industry...we can't make anything original.

There's no incongruity here.  Even an overrated half-Metroid is better than anything to ever come out of Rare.

Retro mainly because they've shown to be competent at making a great game with out Nintendo having to hold their hand through development and with out the rediculous delays either.

I give credit to Rare at their best we got Goldeneye and DKC, Retro are a young studio at around a decade old but have the Prime Trilogy and DKCR, in a straight up comparison Rare have released more game but have been around much longer yet Prime is the strongest game both technically and as a game compared to anything most companies have released let alone Rare no offence to them but Prime is just above their bar, DCKR has also been recieved well in a era when 2d is harder to please both critics and gamers. Rare had a lot of ambition and creativity but Retro certainly has the enginuity and discipline in pulling off their games I see Rare back in their days in a similar league as studios like Imsomniac while Retro seem more in the mould of Naughty Dog.

I read some people suggesting that Rare established a brand in Banjo-Kazooie. What's it worth again? It's being shoehorned into Xbox Family Gaming. Just like Rare itself, B-K is just a shell nowadays.

The best game Banjo was ever in was published by Sega anyway.  It's a shell today, but not really missing much...

What game is that?

My favorite game with Banjo in it is Diddy Kong Racing.
