I bought a PS3 at launch mainly because I wanted to have a blu-ray player. There was no big hit yet, no game library and the price was very high. (CAD 680)

I only played Ridge racer 7 and FFXII on it in the beginning. I also bought full auto 2 battlelines for it at launch (utter crap) and Resistance 1 which I didn't bother to finish untill a year later. Now I don't have time to watch movies anymore with all the great games that come out for ps3.

its graphics power of course! lol

I know I'm gonna sound biased, but the reason Wii sold well was because of the Wiimote.

I know I shouldn't say the G word... but getting a gimmick or something akin to it really. Microsoft and Sony are doing just that as well.

Games and marketing.

Everything stems out of marketing and price. They are KEY.

But word of mouth comes naturally once you have a good system/game...

Its the reason why the PS3 performs poorer in the USA and why the 360 performs poorer in places like Europe even though the libraries and system capabilities are identical.

marketing hype, price, and durability.
