Forums - Gaming - Could This Be Nintendo's Last Big Christmas?

The wii sounds just like the ipod, more expensive then what its worth and people only buy it because of the name. I'm sure Nintendo could care less if they sell on name brand alone.

You may want to check out the iPods more carefully. They have the biggest online store for both music and video (and podcasts), incredible battery life, widest choice of 3rd party accessories and some of the slimmest proportions usually some 0.1" thinner than the competiton. Not to mention a usable interface although I bet that's no argument for you. iPod sales have been increasing even faster than Wii sales year after year for the last 6 years and are approaching 140 million LTD by the end of this year. I think it's a pretty good role model for the Wii.

Cobretti stop using common sense. Wii detractors lack the ability to understand common sense.

But with RE4, Capcom simply took a Game of the Year and then polished and configured it for the Wii. "Slightly" different than developing a year's best title from the ground up, especially considering the truncated developmental time lines many third party developers have been taking with the Wii.

It's all because most third party companies didn't want to develop for the platform until it became obvious that Joe Public was buying it faster than the competition.

If only more third party companies would produce titles that played as sharp as RE4, I might actually buy more games for the system. Support good games by passing on the chaff.

@ Cobretti

offocurse they will if they keep releasing shit games. It is jsut fact. They need to get their heads out of their asses and design a decent game and people will buy it.

The Wii specs are very weak compared to the 360 and PS3, it will take a lot of effort to make suitable trade-offs, 3rd parties don't have the resources and expertise to create a Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3 specifically for the Wii.

Many people owning a Wii own a PC, 360 or PS3 next to this console and for many cross-platform games it may just make better sense to buy a game intended for a higher specced console, especially if you own a HDTV (for example IMO there's little to no potential for a game like Oblivion or BioShock on the Wii, due to this and a much smaller percentage of late teen and adult males on the platform, especially those who don't own a PS3/PC/360 as well). I think the fact that the PS2 is still doing well potentially helps Wii development viability though.

PS3 vs 360 sales

LOL, this thread is priceless - it actually made me laugh! :)

At what *exact* point do people just instantly lose interest in the Wii? Post Xmas? Now? A month after Xmas?

@ shams

I think this will happen gradually, just like for the PS2. I think the Wii will perform very well for 2008 though, overall probably the best selling home console for the year.

The only people losing interest in the Wii are maybe half the people who already have them and are rarely using them. Selling the hardware is one problem Nintendo does not currently have.

I don't think anyone predicted it would continue to sell out a year after its debut. Every time I saw one on store shelves, I kept thinking "Hey, they're finally able to keep the Wii in stock" only to find out that it was just a FLUKE that I saw one for sale.

It will slow down sooner or later ... when , that I cant say , but seeing how many 3rd party games are doing on it , I wouldent give it that much time ...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Every week there is some thread on here about the Wii's demise. Will this be the end? Will this be their biggest failure? Will people just magically stop buying the Wii come Jan. 1 2008? I guess the fate is the same as that of the DS, it just will not be able to continue. What a fad these two systems are.
