What Rol is saying is that you flush out the trolls by burning the bridges they hide under.

So they can build new ones to continue to seek refuge?

You can't flush out every troll, if each moderator had that ability, the trolls would hardly exist in the first place (but as we see, the trolling is increasing). What you CAN do is moderate as best as possible. Many times, a poster who is trolling will receive just a warning, because even though trolling is against site rules, it doesn't always go overboard, necessitating a ban. But with the increase of the troublemakers during an already busy part of the year (the holidays), all moderators can do is hope the reasonable folk of the community report the behavior so it can be dealt with.

Trolls will always be here and relying solely on the actions of moderators during the busy periods of the year doesn't seem to be the best course of action. Why should I be standing by, if I have the ability to shut them out of some troublesome threads?

On top of that, if you take the easy opportunities to troll away from them, then the chances rise that they'll post something that warrants moderating action. I mean, if a thread is full of borderline posts, it's hard to justify a ban to just one member or a select few, but if such a post is found in a thread that is mostly filled with reasonable discussion, it stands out.

SO we must trick the trollers to flame on a trap-thread and obliterate them with the ban hammer!

I haven't noticed too much of an increase in trolls.  They have been here since the beginning just perhaps in greater numbers now due to expansion of VGC.  I have yet to be banned but I am sure I have said a few things that were very close to resulting in ban.  I try to post what is on my mind without saying something too bad.

I do feel the overall quality of discussions on this site has gone down a little.  I used to enter any thread a year or more back and I would see walls of text of people politely/calmly debating vast topics.  Specs and other information being thrown around that most common people would probably not know of.  While some of the information might have been false or misleading, I found most pretty accurate.  Those users are still here yet I just don't see the type of interesting debate in most threads as I used to.

Well, that's also a way to handle them, albeit a risky one, because if you don't know what you are doing, then you'll get banned as well. How many times have you been banned by now?

Four. No, FIVE! But most were paid by some evil magnificent bastard whom runs the director's board behind the scenes and has an evil scheme to overthow me.

OP got trolled bad.

Huh?

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I'm happy we have users like you in this site huaxiong. T_T

In all seriousness, the increase in trolls and fanboy threads had been ridiculous. reading the some of the posts in the latest threads just makes facepalm really hard especially that IGN thread about an editor that prefers the PS3 over the 360. I still believe that we have one of the best gaming communities around.

I guess I should start my troll hunting again. V_V

I stopped with 3.0 since I got tired but it has been getting that bad...but first anime then troll hunting...

Former something....

among the best threads on the site IMO

I personally try to ignore unreasonable threads in order to keep myself grounded.

That's what all reasonable users should do I think.

Great thread! Thanks for that!

And I guess it will get even worse for a while when the next shipment numbers are out...

I second this. Some of the curent threads are starting to get anoying. I am somtimes part of the problem, I admit it ( ther are spome topics that are just to... well irrezistable tbh ).

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

The trolling on vgchartz does indeed seem to be at an all time high.

But don't worry not all hope is lost! There are still some of us long time members around who will keep vgchartz the awesome website it is!
