Forums - Sales - Will Xbox 360 outsell Wii in Americas Calendar year 2011

1.) xbox 360 has a price cut, gears 3, rumored halo 1 remake, and plenty of kinect titles coming next year. I believe it will do more than fable, slim and halo.

2.) Kinect boost will be far greater next year than this year because it will have been out a full year.

3.) Zelda, dragon quest, pikmin wont boost wii that much because predeccessers of those games already are on the system. Pikmin had a gamecube remake on wii.

4.) nintendo bundles will be a killer along with pricecut.

5.) Sony isnt going to cut price by more than 50 dollars. PS3 is still in the red. They lost far money money with ps3 than they've gained with ps1 and ps2. their goal is to make money right now and nothing else.

6.) ps3 does have a crazy line up but it wont really affect 360's sales

that is it!

1.) I disagree. Slim Kinect Fable Halo Reach> Price cut Gears 3 Kinect games Halo 1 remake (if it even exists) If they remake Halo 1, I somewhat am skeptical that it will outsell Reach. As for the Kinect games, I doubt any of them(except maybe Star Wars Kinect) will be able to push many Kinects or consoles. Of course, a price cut would be very successful, but do you honestly think Nintendo will just sit and twiddle their thumbs, and do nothing?

2.) I do not know about this. On one one hand, I can see that it with a larger and more diverse library, it would be able to entice more reluctant buyers, but on the other hand, will it have such a monstous marketing push next year? I doubt Microsoft will spend another $500 million on marketing, and even with the heavy marketing, Nintendo still beat them.

3.) By that logic, Halo and gears will do nothing because their predeccessers were already released on their console. I do agree that they will not do tremendous boosts to boost sales (except maybe Dragon Quest in Japan at least), but for different reasons.

4.)agreed

5.) Sony has lost more money on the ps3 than they have made on the psx or ps2? I call BS and will believe so until you provide links.

6.) It may not hurt them by a lot, but it certainly will not help them.

People really need to stop saying things like this. It's 100% BS. Been proven wrong multiple times by Mario, DQ, CoD, Halo, Pokemon, MH, Uncharted, Gran Turismo, etc. Big games will always push HW no matter if it's a new entry. Besides, you think ports and spinoffs will have a significant negative effect on HW when the next big games come out? No chance. None at all.

I agree 100%. I also believe Nintendo will somehow pull ahead again next year in the USA, and we will have threads like this for 2012. Of course, with my luck, I will be wrong and someone will revive this thread and mock me.

If you go by your number 3, then number 1 doesn't hold true, I mean why would sequels and remakes boost 360 but now Wii?

1.) it could go either way really price cuts are huge and last forever

2.) another 500 million? are you crazy? 500 million is about all the commercial time for every channel for about 6 months. there's no way they spent 500 million for this holiday. they meant 500 million for 2010 2011

3.) yes they will do minimal boosting I never denied gears 3 wouldn't sell many consoles

4.) ok

5.) http://www.1up.com/news/sony-lost-ps3-ps2

that was in 2008. they have constantly been losing money since so i expect it to be that way.

6.) Yeah but still wont hurt them i dont think. not this far into the gen anyways

i never said halo 1 remake would boost more than a wii sequal. stop making things up. I also said a wii sequal would boost wii but not as much as a new IP on the wii. again stop making things up

Did people ignore the last 1/2 of the year? 360 pulled ahead and then release Kinect which wont just die down after the Holidays. Most of the Kinects sold were gifts and now they are just being played and new people are being introduced to Kinect and the word of mouth will spread.  At the same time Nintendo had to get offer after offer from retailers to stay ahead and offer 3 different SKUs all with 2 free games to hold the holiday.  Now the Wii Holiday boost is over and unless Nintendo acts quickly they sales will revert back to how they were in September and October and possibly worse now that Kinect is out and impressing people.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Don't see why not, NPD YTD has 360 ahead 100k ish, this will change with Dec (I don't buy it'll be over 1 mill ahead though ...)

And although Americas heavily favours Wii and tips it in its favour, a lead in the US could overcome that.

I'm cautious due to adjustments, but if Kinect has done as well as the data suggests, it's going to be the main thing pushing a home console buy next year.

I would go ahead and say no.  While I do expect the 360 to sell great in 2011 I just don't see it outselling the Wii.

However if MS does heavily support Kinect and brings out some more solid software for both hardcore and casual audiences it does have a chance at doing it.  To me the deciding factor between the two will be how well Kinect holds up in sales over the year not counting holidays.

1.)Do they? If you are referring to the price itself, it is believable, but if you are talking about the boosting effects of price cuts, I disagree.

2.)http://www.1up.com/news/microsoft-five-hundred-million-marketing-kinect

I do not know. They make it seem as if they began spending 18 months before the release of Kinect, but on the other hand make it seem as if it was spent this holiday season.

3.) Not directly, but your logic defeated your first statement lol.

4.)Ok

5.)Ok, I thought you were talking about the ps2 in general, not just hardware.

6.) It will hurt, but as for it being tremendous or even noticeable, is still to be determined.

1.) yep a price cut will effect sales for years. You're probably wealthy like me but you have to realize there are people who want to play videogames that will only buy it when they can find it cheap (See ps2 sales).

2.) Def. not all spent this holiday

3.) Ok let's let wii software boost cancel out 360 software boost then.

6.) We can both agree software on opposite platforms are going to have little effect on each others software. If you wanna fight about this, move would most likely take sales away from wii because move is very similar to the wii remote.
