Forums - Sales - Will the Wii be able to outsell the Hd consoles any week this holiday?

From when to when its the holyday?

Around the Network

Of course Wii will outsell the HD consoles this holiday season. Remember, Wii has had absolutely no hardware movers up until about a week or two ago, and has still hung around for most of the year. Then there's the fact that Nintendo consoles typicially get the largest holiday boosts (even Gamecube got major boosts during the holiday), and Donkey Kong is going to be huge as well.

Granted, but have they ever ran in the past against a $500 million marketing campaign during the holidays ? (not to mention the tons of free hype Kinect will get in the general press due to that campaign). That's what makes me question what will happen this year's season, not all the Wii IZ Doooommez naysayers. The WIi is clearly not doomed, it will still sell fine during the holidays, but I have my doubts if anything will be able to surpass the Kinect juggernaut campagin.

MS can throw all the money they want into Kinect hype and advertising, but if the games suck, the thing won't sell, at least for a prolonged amount of time. My prediction is it will sell like hotcakes throughout the holidays but will fall like a rock soon after once everyone gets tired of the 17 mini games they launch it with and sells them back in mass.

MS needs some pretty godly advertising to convince people to spend over $300 on an accessory with only 17 mediocre looking games that support it. They will need some kind of hypnosis tactic or something.

But if Kinect sells like hotcakes during the holidays as you yourself expect (and as do I, betwen Oprah and the 500 million), then how do you still see the Wii surpassing it in that period? (this thread is about holday sales after all, not what will happen after the holidays).

Well, when I say sell like hotcakes I mean relative to how 360 sales usually go. I still think Wii should sell more off the strength of its holiday lineup and the usual large boost it gets for simply being a Nintendo console around the holiday. Plus if you factor in Japan, it tips the balance even more in favor of the Wii. I will concede that it will probably be close between the two though (won't be close with the PS3).

A product doesn't have to be good to sell and consumers don't need a compelling reason to own things. Look at Harry Potter books and the iPad for instance.

PS: Like I've stated earlier in the thread, I think the Wii will sell the most out of the three this holiday, but it will be the last (on top) as well imo.

Metallicube is right, it doesn`t matter how much money MS spends in advertising, either people are interested or they are not and with that i mean: are they interested in Kinect games?

Yes, it will sell a lot, but the thing is: will that translate in Xbox360`s? Is MS ready to meed such demand (of consoles) if it happens?
A few things that might, imo, hamper Kinect are:

1 - price.
2 - Will people be looking forward to getting home and "work out" - because it`s going to be psysical - and get tired while playing the game.
3 - Are people ready to play without having something on their hands?

That`s why Wii might be the console of choice to people: affordable price; it isn`t as physical as Kinect; It`s still feels you are in control of something.

...just wanted to bump this one, now exactly 2 months after the thread has been created.

so, what does everyone think now? does the wii have a chance to win any weak against either HD twin this holidays? ;)

LOL this guy's predictiosn just blew in his face ...badly.  Wii outsold the HD consoles everyweek, even combined this week.
