The 360 holds a firm grip there, as it does here in the States. What makes it even more impressive is when you consider the original Xbox's position before it, had hardly anything to brag about. Microsoft has made the necessary headway this time around.

The 360 has  no grip , none in the UK. The Wii is  the leading console there with the 360 behind it. The advantage the 360 has over seems to be a fair amount of discouted pricing which blows all the others away.

It like saying France is PS3 nation because it's currently outselling the Wii which is nonesense.

I will give it to you: The 360 does very well in UK better than anywhere else other than the US, but that's just 2 places.

I understand that bit Rock, but let's look at it from another angle: the PlayStation and Nintendo brands are far more powerful worldwide. Taking this into consideration, particularly considering Sony's position in the UK throughout the PS1/PS2's lives, the 360 being able to keep ahead of the PS3 for so long there is impressive, at least on that front. I mean sure, Sony made numerous mistakes this gen that have been costly to their overall success, and the two places that they've fumbled the hardest seems to be the two places where they can't keep up with the 360: UK & US.

It's impressive for the 360 and Xbox brand that it's been able to penetrate any markets considering one of those factors (the original Xbox's rep). Of course I excluded the Wii, as it's too far ahead for any type of logical comparison here. The victory for the 360 in the UK (and in the US in the same breath) is over Sony and PS brand. That's what they set out to do.

The rest of the world, no, the PlayStation is beating it and quite handily in some markets, which IMO, isn't too shocking. I'm just giving it some credit for being able to pull out any kind of victory outside of the many EU markets and Japan, where Sony will likely always dominate them.

I agree you on the whole Playsation area, but Seece was using the Wii, not the PS3 to show how the 360 has somehow become the console of choice in the UK. I disagree because the 360 outselling the Wii has more to do with major discounts in that country which the 360 gets versus all the other consoles.

It's been 4 weeks already, discounts havn't been going that long. Plus 360 has outsold Wii here before, on RDR, ect.

I mean current console of choice, I have no idea how the holiday will shape up, for once this gen though I can see a possibility of 360 being 1st overall this year.

In 2 weeks it will have sold more in the UK this year than the Wii ...

But you suck at sports.

in every age.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK6xYoJaeFc

U21: Neuer, Özil, Khedira, Aogo --> those 4 played for Germany this world cup.

Sorry for offtopic.

I am glad that 360 is doing so well in uk. A lot of developers are in the uk, so being big there can't be a bad thing

Let's not mistake sports with Football shall we, we suck at football, and we all know it.

Germany's team in the work cup was outstanding and in my view should have won the whole thing, they showed not only promise but flair and determination while Spain was just get a goal and keep it type play with was boring and dull.

Our team is mad from old aging players, we haven't had the same new blood that Germany has had and we desperately need it, next World Cup and Euros I don't expect half our current team to be there, they are all aging and it is showing.

But then other sports, we are ranked top in the world in nearly every sport, just hardly ever the best in said sport.

I don't know why we are talking about sports here, but the UK is has a top team in almost every kind of sports ?

How about handball, basketball, hockey, bicycle racing, ice-hockey oh wait let's just say anything that involves snow or ice.

I think France, Italy, Spain and Germany are still quite a bit ahead of the UK when it comes to sports.

The reason 360 is doing so well is the same reason PS3,Iphone,Samsung tv's etc are doing so well. In the UK people do not give a rats ass where stuff comes from. If it is good we will buy it. Playstation is still popular here, it still sells just as well as other countries. It is just this gen people see the 360 as the main console to buy. This might have various factors such as price etc.. But if i look at most of my friends they will own a 360. The reason they do means that other friends feel they had better get one too if they want to multi-player with each other. Another important thing is the games.

Looking at the games i see my mates play they all have the same games. All have Fifa, but most have Gears of War,Halo,Forza and the COD games. Those games are all very popular. 3 of them are exclusive titles. So i am sure that plays a part in the decision process. If you look at the top 20 game sales for 360 here 9 of those are exclusive to the console. That is almost 50%, that is amazing. Where as if you look at PS3's  top 10 they have 3 exclusive games. GT5:Prologue,Motorstorm and Resistance. In terms of mass exposure they are nowhere near the level of the Halo or Gears games. More people will know about Halo and Gears then Motorstorm and Resistance. The awarness thing plays a huge part.

So the reason 360 is doing so well has nothing to do with fanboyism, i don't think it even has anything to do with Blu-Ray as you can get players for around £70 these day's. A far cry from the time when the PS3 was the cheapest player. The reason it is doing well is because right now of the 3 consoles it is at this momment in time the most desirable console. It is cheaper then a PS3, has a wider selection of games that appeal to the UK audience but more imortantly bigger franchise games that get lot's of advertising meaning higher awarness. It is like with the new 360 launch yesterday and Kinect. Both have been getting a lot of media exposure in the main stream.

The UK is not pro 360....that is just stupid. The Playstation brand for the past 2 gens has had lockdown on the games market in the UK. If you asked 10 people last gen what console they owned here i bet 9/10 would of been a PS2. The same as everywhere else in the world. This gen is different. People have bought 2 other competitiors to the Playstation console. Again the same as in the rest of the world.

Yep we gamers have a market to ourselves, well were taking Japan too, as much as people here wont admit it.

See theres a clear disconnect, the PS2 gamers graduated to more hardcore games, this isnt happening this gen as 70% of Wii owners were previous PS2 owners.

So yeah, this generation we celebrate a game crawling to a million, back in those days, it was common place. Hopefully we gamers can hold on for the next few years and get the generation into the swing that we had in the PSone and PS2 days.

I wouldnt worry though, you guys are going to move onto Apple, there will be minimal heartache. = )

PS1 and PS2 had a large casual game base which made both a huge success. This generation Nintendo's Wii is the casual games console which picked up the lion's share of the casual gamer market. The loyal/hardcore gamers apparently spend more time and money on gaming and buy more games than casual gamers.

Hardcore/loyal gamers are fan bases of all three: Wii, X360 and PS3. The game to console attach ratios indicate that the 360 has the most dedicated fan base who on average buy more games. Highest game attach rate is on the 360. The 360 could be regarded as the most hardcore games console with its highest game to console attach ratio.

Most people that i knoew that have brought a 360 got it because the PS3 is too expensive for them when compared to the cheapness of a 360.

The only people i have really heard say the 360 is better then PS3's are like me nephew and his freinds. They are like 13 years of age and under.

Also when i go to my friends houses who have children "mainly boys" ages like 7 to 12 they usualy have a 360 because they feel the PS3 is too "High end" for a child.

But the people i know does not = UK

Ah, phoney incidental proof FTW, of which likely isn't even true, you're just trying to stealth troll and say 360 is for kids or something.

Oh please i got better things to do then troll on a console. Really

Ok please answer this question for me. How many kids do you know with a PS3 in the bedrooms? And it is true the only person who really says the 360 is better is my nephew and his friends. That being said thoug i aint implying the 360 is for kids. But I would bet that the average age of a 360 owner is younger then the PS3

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Xbox 360s UK awesome !

"have been expected, demand appears to be outstripping supply. Having contacted a number of national, local and independent stockists, Electronic Theatre has learned that gamers looking to acquire one of the new Xbox 360 “S” consoles this weekend may have a difficult task ahead of them.

Beginning with the larger stores and national supermarkets, Electronic Theatre was today informed by Sainsbury’s that many stores’ had sold through their allocation within hours of opening yesterday, and additional supplies had been shipped to those which the demand was believed to be greatest at. However, according to the spokesperson Electronic Theatre discussed the matters with, the second shipment would be unlikely to “last the whole day.”

Tesco Direct has sold through its initial allocation, and Electronic Theatre was informed this morning that most stores throughout the UK have done the same. When asked about the likelihood of obtaining a unit from a Tesco store, a representative of Tesco’s Entertainment division informed us that our chances were decidedly low. Videogames specialist retailer GAME stated that many stores nationwide had sold through their supply within hours of opening, and declined to offer Electronic Theatre a date at which they expect to be restocked. However, it was suggested that GAME’s online store retained stock, and that hopefully the supplies there should last through the weekend.

A number of local independents had also received day one shipments of the newly redesigned console, only to find their supply very much outstripped by the demand. None of the stores contacted by Electronic Theatre held any remaining units, and one stockist suggested that they had, “greatly underestimated the demand for the new unit.”

Not sure if it was due to stock, but Xmas week UK 2008, (27th Dec) 360 > Wii

July - December 31st last year in the UK, Wii outsold 360 by 300k.

I believe at worst they will be within 100k of each other by the end of the year ...
