Will Obama be re-elected in 2012?

Yes 111 37.00%

No 98 32.67%

Too early to call 79 26.33%

I don't know 12 4.00%

Total:300

Its impossible to say at this point in time because (in my opinion) what will determine whether he wins or not is still unknown.

First off is the state of the economy and job market in 2012. It is unrealistic to expect the economy to return to boom times or full employment by 2012, but if there isn’t significant improvement Obama will be in trouble. Secondly, there is his opponent. George W. Bush would have probably lost the election in 2000 or 2004 had he ran against credible candidates; and the right candidate could easily beat Obama in 2012. Finally, I would say what Obama does over the next 2 years will be critical; if he continues to push an agenda that most voters oppose he will need a miracle to win the next election.

Why is everyone so cynical when they talk about him. Just last year this time people still loved him. And unlike Bush, who got re-elected, I fail to see in glaring flaws in what he has done so far...

Could someone explain? (Im not American BTW)

Lets see:

  • Promised a ticket of 'hope' and 'change', despite keeping us in 2 unpopular wars, and a lot of Bush-era policies.
  • Was supposed to be a 'uniter' and bi-partisan, despite pushing through some glaringly one-sided .
  • Has totally botched economic recovery with a poorly planned bailout.
  • Currently botching the oil disaster - he's sat back, and waited for it to get worse and worse, spouting rhetoric with no actions.
  • Has done nothing of major positive worth since his election a year and a half. America is, for the most part, worse off now than when he was elected.
  • Fought for a very poor health care bill, instead of focusing on the economy.

That would sum most of it up.

He did a lot to bring bipartisanship to the table, but republicans were having none of it.  It's not his fault, bipartisanship doesn't mean just giving the other party everything they want without putting up a fuss.  Obama gave a lot of concessions to republicans at first but they still did nothing for him so he dropped it altogether.

Also would you just pull out of the wars?  That would be idiocy and a disaster scenario, the job must be finished we can't just cut and run.

As for botching the economic recovery every economic analyst agrees that the stimulus packages and bailouts kept us from going into a longer and deeper recession,  our economy has been growing steadily for the past four months and jobs have been increasing.

Nothing of worth?  The healthcare bill allows anyone to acquire healthcare and that effect was immediate, I know a good group of people who didn't have access before who do now. That effect was immediate and greatly positive.

Sorry couldn't wait to read eight pages had to reply to this post, but I think he'll win because as joblessness slowly decreases more and more people are seeing for themselves that his policies are indeed working.

After seeing people's replies it just shows how little people know about politics.. Do i think Obama will win re election? absolutly..  Lets look at it this way.  At this same time in their presidencies, both Reagan and Clinton where at 40% approval ratings. Everyone said they would lose re election big, well what actually happened was both won re election by more votes than their first election!

I saw one poster here compare Obama to carter? lol really?  Obama is the anti carter..  Carter was incompotent, Obama got healthcare reform done, something 7 presidents have tried for the last century, Obama did it.  Obama has turned around this economy. Jobs ar growing again, GDP is growing again, consumer confidence is back up and things are looking up for the better.

Obama has held at a very steady 48% approval rating for the last 6 months, what that shows is Obama has a very strong base of support.  All Obama is doing is keeping his campaign promises, nothing more nothing less. Lets go through them shall we.  Healthcare reform done, Dont Ask Dont tell on the way to being repealed, he sent more troops to afghanistan, the Iraq war is still ending in 2 months, the economy is roaring, financial reform is expected to be passed by July 4th and he ordered the closing of GITMO.

He talked about ALL these things on the campaign trail.  Also the GOP doesnt have ANYONE worth running.. Sarah Palin? lol i needed a good joke..  Rand Paul/Ron Paul, the same ones that want to repeal civil rights?  yea right.   The bottom line is, YES Obama will win re election by a landslide.  Id be willing to bet money on it

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Rand Paul was not saying that he wanted civil rights repealed, he simply stated the the federal government should not have a right to tell a company whom it may or may not serve. That is libertarianism at its core; the federal government was never meant to have the vast power it now employs. A reporter with an (far left of course) agenda turned it into, "Rand Paul wants to repeal civil rights." Keep on spouting off your far left lies pal. Do you actually believe the drivel you spout out?

It doesn't matter what he meant but what he said, which is that he does not support the federal government enforcing racial equality.  People are not going to like hearing this no matter what, thus he is a weak candidate.

Yes. Quite frankly he's a good president, and I find most people who say otherwise tend to approach Obama with a pre-conceived opinion of him. These people are are a small minority who seem to have a large voice and are desperate to make it seem like he's doing a bad job, and this sways the opinions of the floating voter.

He will be elected again though. I think that by 2012 (once his policies are in motion) his effect on the USA will be recognised and the opinions of the floating voter will not be swayed so easily.

Also, that coupled with the fact that the only good Republican candidates (e.g. Ron Paul) seem to be alienated by other Republicans. They will never beat Barack Obama by putting someone like the ever-popular-with-republicans Sarah Palin against him.

Although at this point it is probably a little early. He could start slipping and messing things up. Who knows?

Uh.  No Obama didn't.  He didn't even negotiate with the Republicans he just said "Here's some stuff you might like, now agree with me or else."

You know... when he promised during the campaign... full televised debates ont he subject.

I hope EVERYONE here who either Wants Obama reelected or not, voted (if you were eligible).   If you did not you have no right to an opinion on politics.

Your alternate universe sounds cool.

Obama has, on more than one occasion, tried to end a debate with a Republican by saying, "HURRRR STFU I WON ELECTION."

In my opinion already one of the greatest presidents of all times.

Do not forget that he has to deal with Republicans in congress who

are not willing to move anything forward and are trying to block everything

( health care, climate bill, bill to reform Wall Street etc.)

People tend to forget that. If anyone is interested in having a good discussion about American politics

he is welcome to send me a pn. I would be very interested to listen to someone who does not approve of

Obama and his reasons. As longs as the discussion is lead with mutual respect.

In the short time of his presidency he has already moved a couple of things forward.

And most importantly the economy is recovering and just in may 400.000 new jobs were created.

He has finally started to reach out to Americas allies who have become very rare the past eight years.

He understands that we can only overcome today's challenges if the leading nations work together.

Another important aspect for me is that he started to decrease the amount of nuclear weapons

and signed a treaty that both Russia and the USA will destroy a huge amount of the arsenal.

Whether you agree with Health care or not you gonna have to admit that the health system in the

US needed a huge overhaul. It is one of the most expensive and least effective in the world.

I do not understand why people are against it because it doesn't change your current health plan.

It only allows people less lucky to get treatment as well and prevents companies from kicking you out.

Why shouldn't he be elected for a second term? Even ( in my opinion) the worst president George W. Bush managed to pull that off.

I would encourage you to watch the video where Obama meets with House republicans and discussed for more than

five hours!!! The problem is that those republicans who voted with Obama are now being brought down by their own party (just look at the primaries going on right now). I really hoped and thought that moderates would take controll in the GOP after Bush/Cheeney but it seems that they are getting more radical each day.

Where are people like Jindal or Schwarzenegger who seem to be reasonable?

431,000 jobs, actually... 411,000 of which were temporary census worker jobs.
