Forums - Website Topics - The VGC 3.0 Complaint/Suggestion Thread

I see that the "Hot Topics" is apparently not liked by ioi, and not coming back? The reason given is that it will cut down on the trolling.

Sure, it may cut down on the trolling, but it may well also cut down on every other kind of post as well...

But on the other side of the coin, you're encouraging people to isolate themselves in their own little worlds and discouraging exposing them to other forums -- that doesn't bother you?

And what about My Recent Threads?

No, maybe that way people will start talking more about games rather than using any excuse to just troll each other and derail threads.

This won't change overnight but eventually I believe that it'll work. All those who keep criticising - it was me who first created hot topics, recent threads etc. I'm fully aware of their functionality and benefit as it was my who devised them to start with - same with 95% of the rest of the features that VGChartz has contained over the years. Any decisions to change or move away from something are intentional and with a reason, even if some of you don't like it or can't see it. VGChartz is no longer small site or community, we are growing and need to make necessary changes to both accomodate the current growth and continue to expand.

We'll see how things go but I do wish people wouldn't talk to me like these features were their idea or something. If you all like VGChartz and come here because you enjoy the site we've put together, please place some trust in the fact that we know what we are doing.

I just had a rather crazy idea.

How about, Hot Topics is only implemented for those with over 5000 points? You can keep the trolls out, because if you've crossed that mark, you know about the rules, and you're generally a fair and balanced poster.

I don't think it's fair to punish the vast majority of users for a very small minority of trolls (who will just go into the forum in question and troll it anyway)

I've been editing my big post back on Page 7 of this thread and the "this post was edited X time ago" notification doesn't seem to be there.  But I'm POSITIVE that that feature survived the update, at least initially.  (It even changed from a timestamp to "x time ago" just like the posts, IIRC.)

Can anyone tell me what happened?  Was I imagining that it was still here, or was that feature removed for some crazy reason?  I really liked it, and if it's missing it may be bad for the mafia games.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

I don't know if it is just me, but with games like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, with a ' in, it shows as Drake's Fortune. I also noticed this on Mirror's Edge and Assassin's Creed II

I'm also a big fan of the changes made to rating games.  It's so much easier now, and I went from never botthering to rate any of my games to rating just about my entire collection in ~10 minutes.

I've also changed my opinion on the glossy finish for our avatars.  At first I thought it looked quite nice, and it does on certain people's avatars, like Final-fan, axumblade, and euphoria, but on other people it often looks weird.  Take my avatar for example.  It looks like part of her hair is faded out.  It also looks odd on thechalkblock's knight.

With enough contrast it looks pretty cool, but for avatars with lighter backgrounds it either makes it look like they chose a messed up picture or else it blends in so much it's unnoticeable.

Yeah but people have started to rate unreleased games.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Hm, I can't seem to find the edit profile option.

My profile is also different than it was before.  Not sure if it was an intended change or a glitch, but there is no more "Favorite Games" section.  Instead my list of games now appears under a "Hobbies" section.  The information I had in the "About Me" section (or whatever the last one was) now appears under "Forum Signature".  My actual signature (which I assume should appear there?) is nowhere to be found.

I like what you have done with the website. My only complaint/suggestion would be to change the colour scheme. The white/green/grey combination doesn't work.

It's so hard to see what you're typing when leaving a comment on someone's wall!

You only get to see a single line, a bigger area to type in would be much better. Like the one I'm typing in right now to leave this reply.

Sorry if this has been suggested before, I didn't feel like reading 500 comments.

Ok.  Just went back to my profile, and now my hobbies are showing up under the hobby section, the "about me" stuff is showing up in the about me section, and both the favorite games section and my list of favorite games are nowhere to be found.

I assume that's how it's supposed to be?  Having a favorite games section on this site did seem somewhat redundant once we were given the option to list and rate our game collection, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it removed.

Edit:

And now all sections are accounted for, exactly as they were under 2.0.  Dunno what was going wrong, but it looks like it's all fixed.
