FFV: Had a better job system than 3, and handled PC deaths better than 7 did. Also had Exdeath, the most boring villain ever, but then again, it had Gilgamesh, the best FF pseudo-villain ever. The player characters were pretty cut and dry, and beyond those points I can't remember anything that significant about it. I'd say it deserves an 8.
FFVI: Even though I'm one of the weird people who dislike Kefka (ZOMG HERESY), there are no big flaws in the game besides him. The characters are likable, the plot is good if not great (and the light/ruin => linear/not-so-linear split worked well), the graphics and music were great - especially the music - and the gameplay mechanics were solid albeit insanely exploitable, making the game quite easy.
For me, it's a 9.
