"If a game doesn't sell well, it doesn't deserve better" really? lol quite a statement their.

I hate the whole idea that "X game deserves better." It has to earn its sales. The market desides what is quality and what is not. If thwe game doesn't sell well, then there was a reason that consumers didn't want to buy the game. If the company wishes for the game to sell better, it doesn't hope and dream but it goes and makes the game something the market will want. This is business. Most people in this thread are talking about some divine right that games deserve.

You seem to be forgetting that the market also need to know the game exists. Compared to most Nintendo franchises Metroid Prime games have had the bare minimum amount of advertising. There are many games that could do a lot better than they do in reality because the promotion of the game is poor.

Multiplayer in Echoes "lacked"? More liked it sucked balls.

EDIT: I realize I didn't contribute to the thread. Metroid really doesn't deserve better sales because it has never been a "mainstream" franchise. On top of that, the franchise disappeared for 8 years. You start to lose your fanbase after such a long time.

*smack* You never contribute whenever I see you in a thread. D:

That's because I'm a troll. A very poor one.

1. The Metroid Prime games for the GameCube do not have an online multiplayer. Last Gen online gaming for Consoles were the new thing and games that had a multiplayer enjoyed very good sales. This fact alone lost the Metriod Prime games sales.

2. The Metroid Prime games are FPAs not FPSs. This lost sales for the series.

What's left in the sales department is what the games sold. Let's not forget that the IP had been MIA for 8 years until the release of Metroid Fusion for the GBA. Metroid Prime came later. This meant that new gamers from the N64 on to the Gamecube had to be reintroduced to the Metroid IP. If Nintendo had developed a Metroid game for the N64. I believe the series would have developed a larger following.

Note: The sales of the Gamecube may have also contributed to the low sales of the series.

Metroid Prime and Metroid IV launched on the same day in 2002.

On the one hand, you can claim Metroid deserves more sales. But on the same token, you could claim Zelda on the whole does as well. Or Kirby. Or WarioWare. or Fire Emblem. Or practically any of Nintendo's major properties aside from Mario and Pokemon.

Fact is, Metroid is actually one of the top selling gaming series in the world. And that comes with a pretty limiting assortment of titles. And with most of those sales only coming from the west. I'd say its doing pretty good for itself. Especially having done so well practically in a non-existent genre with limited advertising and with one new title every 3-5 years on average.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Metroid Prime was hard and frustrating for me. That game is not for everyone
Metroid Prime 2 is much easier and more linear than the 1st one.

So try to pick why they don't sell. Metroid Prime sold for being a good exploration game. Metroid is the only other one that does that. Makes you wonder why Prime 2 & 3 didn't sell well?

Prime 2 was waaaay harder than Prime 1. I'm not entirely sure how anyone could arrive at another conclusion...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I honestly don't care how much Metroid games sell as long as Nintendo continues to make them and continues to make them great.

I don't know, I didn't like Prime 1 or 3 and put them down after a few hours. It's just not for everyone. FPS, sterile and cold, the annoying scanning... They kind of drag me down.

But Other M looks fantastic, I think this will be the first Metroid game I'll buy. And somehow I am confident that it will sell better than any of the Primes.

Short answer. No.
Long Answer. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo,

If the game deserved to sell more it would have. The franchise has been out for years, it's a Nintendo IP. Yet still lacks massive penetration compared to some other games like DMC. Clearly the game doesn't deserve to sell more or it would have. Not that the Prime Series helped it's reputation. Yes they were a good game in their own style, but FPS put off a lot of people. I for one liked the side scrollers, but I avoid the FP view very much. I would love to see the game more like DMC, Gaiden or something rather than an FPS. So no While Prime games were good I firmly believe that it hurt it's reputation more than improved it.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

....Metroid as a series sells basically on par with Devli May Cry. The first Metroid Prime sold more than any Devil May Cry.

Blame Nintendo. They didn't give me enough time to buy the trilogy >.>
