I've always found it interesting how there are people who will play a variety of different genres, and then claim there aren't many games from a certain publisher or studio that interest them. This generation, Sony has developed or published a large number of great games from dozens of different genres. They've published great shooters (Uncharted 1 and 2, Killzone 2), great action games (inFamous, Heavenly Sword), great RPGs (Demon's Souls, Folklore), great platformers (LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet), great sports games (MLB The Show, Hot Shots Golf), great racing games (Motorstorm, Gran Turismo), and a variety of other titles of varying quality and genres.
For those too lazy to read, you can't really say that you enjoy a variety of games and then also claim that Sony doesn't have anything you'd be interested in. Nintendo still has better games, but Sony is also easily one of the greatest publishers of the generation.

When people have never even looked at sony's first party achievements, it makes them look incredibly biased, and that includes every single poster in this thread. |
So how should this thread be run then? Sit people down and force them to play Sony games and then force them to give an 'honest' assessment of the quality of the games. The opinions might be ill-informed but the purpose of this thread is to get people's opinions.
Furthermore you don't know that these people have never tried Sony games and if these people have never played Sony games that is still a failing on Sony's part, either in marketing or in making games that appeal to these people. Similarly if Nintendo's 'kiddy-centric' design philosophy or Microsoft's FPS-centric ethos turn you off or prevent you from enjoying their games, that's their fault. Making high quality games is only part of the equation.

If Sony was to be compared to nintendo (hell even sega during PS1/ early ps2 days) with first party efforts, they would have been laughed out of the room. |
I couldn't have said it better myself.
I LOVE ICELAND!

Nintendo by far is the best in first party.
Sony comes next

+1 great reply and thanks for your very well balanced statement. I could not agree more.
My nod goes to Sony simply because they give a little something for everyone and they don't just do 3-4 good games a year, they do many more than that.
They are pretty much at the point of Nintendo where their games alone would easily warrant a purchase of their console and if anyone thinks otherwise I would think they are crazy.
Not to get into list wars but if you can't find something here, well...
ModNation Racers
Gran Turismo 5
White Knight Chronicles
Heavy Rain
God of War 3
Move Titles
The Last Guardian
M.A.G.
That is just a few and these are all pretty much 2010 titles. Can you figure out just how many different genres there are as well as how many of these appeal to age groups ranging from under 10 to over the age of 30?
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Yea, Sony has published a ridiculously wide range of games this generation, and I think a lot of people don't give them enough credit. Including some very unique games on the PSP/PSN (Patapon, Locoroco, Flower, Echochrome), Sony has dabbled in just about every genre and kind of game imaginable.
I'm impressed by what they have offered, and I'm impressed by the variety of their games, but they doesn't appeal to me in the way Nintendo's games does.
