if a new console comes out soon its XBOX then in response ps3 and wii...........
My own thoughts point to the Wii failing to reach PS2 numbers -- it will be close, but i think that the HD consoles will eat up too much of the market share to allow it to happen.
(Assuming ofcourse that PS3 and 360 both pass 50 million sold... which they should do easily and that this generation "ends" by 2012)
why are we going to see a wii 2 when a wii is 200$ and gamecube want 2years at 99$ with less sales? theirs not going to be a price drop this year on wii it will sell at 199.99 and then maybe in its 5th year it will be 149.99 but nintendo will not do this if they keep winning each week a current console has to start selling more or they will have to release a new console and no these new motion controls will not make a big difference...........
Boutros said: Consoles and handhelds should never ever be considered at the same level. And I agree, the next Nintendo console will prevent the Wii to sell more than the PS2. |
Yeah, its really in Nintendo hands
I can see Wii selling for 10 years, but ninty new console will stop that from happening

The ufortunate thing is that people with similar views to the OP exist in high profile gaming media and business analyst circles.
If they had been any good at predicting things the Wii would be lucky to have much more the 15% marketshare now.
Guys even I am a PS Fan, but Wii shall outsell PS2 eventually, sorry, you only have to look at the sales of PS2'S first years compare to Wii's, to see that, something big would have to change for Wii for it not to outsell the PS2.
It's like I said PS3 will eventually reach 100m, the reason is because the Wii has caught a different audience, whilst the the hardcore audience that normally has owned PS over the past two generations is currently split.
it's the future of handheld

Why is this flamebait in the Nintendo forum?

The PS2 has shipped 140 million units. If it managed to sell enough to get over 150 million sales this year, then it would be ahead of Xbox 360 and PS3 in terms of annual sales. Highly unlikely.
The Wii has currently SOLD over 67 million units after just over 3 years and is coming off of record smashing sales and it will very soon pass 70 million. It took the PS2 a year longer (over 4 years from launch) to hit the 70 million mark.
In addition, during the same period in the PS2's life, without supply constraints, NPD reported it sold 440,000 in the month of January, which is behind the Wii's January NPD sales at 465K WITH supply constraints.
Also, DS will pass the PS2 in 2010. It is selling almost as well as the Wii currently and can do 20-25 million this year which would put it way ahead.

The "hardcore 1337" audience are former PC gaming fans. The "casual" audience are console gaming fans, most of which (like myself) owned a PSX and PS2.
