Gaming as we know it wouldn't exist if not for R.O.B. It was the only way Nintendo could get a games console into American retailers, R.O.B. made NES look like a toy rather than a video games console.

For those who have dismissed the D-pad for not being "modern" and chosen analog stick, you do realise that analog sticks have been used in controllers for 30+ years? Also, it says the most important invention in "modern gaming", not that the tech needs to be modern.

I say "Other" even though it wasn't an option. My other is widescreen.

Keyboard, mouse, joystick, touch pad...

Anyway its probably the optical mouse. More people game on them than they do on Wii + PS3 + Xbox 360 + DS + PSP combined. Flash games and solitaire do count...

A keyboard, mouse are your only real options here. And those are not controllers in the traditional sense. But I really console gaming anyway.
