The death of physical games has been talked about as a future hypothetical for a while but it's approaching faster than expected with likely both Playstation and Xbox no longer supporting it just a couple years from now leaving only Nintendo and not only is the physical situation on the Switch 2 not ideal it's possible they do the same thing some time next decade with the way things are going. I've been digital only for a long term though still dislike this development but for people who mostly or even pretty much exclusively buy games physically this is outright horrendous news so I wonder how y'all plan to manage it.

Finish my retro game collection and buy more Switch 2 games that aren't on GKC. I'll still buy physical PS5 games until the end of 2027. After that I'm sailing the high seas if I want to play anything that isn't on a Nintendo console with the game fully on the cart. But mostly I'll be enjoying my massive backlog.

None of the poll options. Go full retro. Still a lot of old games I never played!

Retro for me.

Pause on next gen while I work on my backlog of physical games.

I think with current restriction and GKC being common place on Switch 2, only Nintendo games and maybe a handful of other devs will keep releasing physical. Unfortunetly most of their games are not released here, and imports are simply cost prohibitive due to taxes

I'll be using GOG or Steam, and when I REALLY want to play handheld, buy them digitally on Switch 2

And when I'm none of options are reasonable, resort to piracy. I already do some piracy to play older games, especially Nintendo games. I occasionally play GBA, DS and 3DS games pirated since Nintendo don't put them for sale lol

Saw it coming years ago because of subscriptions like Game Pass and PS+ Premium, decided to move primarily to PC at that point (2022 ish) but already had a sizeable library from the free games on Epic Games Store. Built up a library on Steam over the years too as I noticed nearly every time a game I liked was leaving Game Pass, it was on sale on Steam by coincidence and cheaper than on Xbox!

Still bought a PS5 and Xbox Series X but mainly play 8th gen games on them. Not seen much of interest compared to previous generations at all.

Nintendo doesn't feel like a solution as there's no guarantee of the full game being on the cart anymore, sad in itself.

In truth, I have so many games to play from the 90s to 2020 (4th to 8th gen), I'm not bothered anymore and will happily play retro and legacy games now and buy the odd indie game on PC. Big GTA fan but between how long it's taken to make and the basically digital only release at launch, lost all interest in the game and think it's over for any other major game release for me. I don't think it's just nostalgia, I actually have way more fun with 6th and 7th gen games than anything that's come out in the past 6 years and still have so many to play as I mainly played PS2, PSP and PS3 at that time. Plenty of games on Xbox 360 and Nintendo's systems from that time that I never played!

Also being burnt as a Stadia player and seeing that demise was a clear warning of being digital only on a closed system too, but at least they gave refunds. Sony won't! At least on PC if anything ever happens to the storefronts someone very likely made the games available elsewhere plus the DRM free GOG is a truly great thing.

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Get a Gaming PC and keep playing Nintendo Switch 2. And of course, I'll keep playing PS5 and other consoles. I have little incentive to get PS6 with no physical support (since I doubt there will be an add-on for physical backwards compatibility).

Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

PC was already my main platform for several reasons, so not much will change for me. PlayStation has always been my console of choice, but it took me forever to get a PS5, and I was already doubtful about getting a PS6. Now it's looking like it's going to take a small miracle for me to get a PS6. I might get into Nintendo at some point, but that's not a now thing due to my backlog.

I will keep playing on Switch 2 and PS5 Pro. But I won't get the next PlayStation. Don't know if Nintendo will stick to physical next gen. But if they don't, I won't get their console. So in my head, I am fully prepared to just abandon gaming altogether. I'm just tired of all the bullshit in the industry.

Just today I rediscovered the beauty of downloading MP3s and putting them on my smartphone. No more streaming bullshit with monthly payments. I actually enjoy that step back into the past.
