Forums - Sony - Will PS5 beat PS2 numbers, if PS6 is delayed?

PS6 delayed to 2030. PS5 sells more than PS2.

True. 3 10.71%

False 24 85.71%

I have no idea 1 3.57%

Total:28

If PS6 is delayed due to hardware pricing and the issues facing putting out a console in the near future,m let's say to 2028/2029...or even 2030. Does PS5 have a chance of beating PS2?

It doesn't seem likely to me, even with Xbox refugees there feels like there is a limit between PS4 numbers and PS2 numbers for some reason. Idk where it is, 130 million perhaps. That feels about right. Completely gut feeling, I have no method of parsing this one out. Plus the hardware itself will increase in price unlike PS2 where you could buy one for the price of a game near the end.

I do not see any Playstation system now and in the future coming close to PS2 numbers. The PS5 is selling less and less every year now since 2023. I think the ceiling is 120 million and that depends on how fast it drops off this year and next year.

There is a better chance of you getting a date with Sydney Sweeney than that.

The ceiling can't be that low.

Ps4 sold 117m in 7 years.

The last 7m, with PS5 around.

The thread maker is influenced by the news that ps6 will be delayed to 2028/2029,due to ram industry issues.

Hopefully, ps5 still  feels new.

And lol, it's the year of the next presidential USA elections...

Ceiling must be above 130m.

Lol no. That is not going to happen

I think the PS5 will still sell A LOT, but it won't reach 160 million.

PS: I absolutely love that PS9 Ad. I hope when the true Playstation 9 arrives, Sony will do something related to that ad.

Maybe the ps12 will one day beat the ps2

Pricing and production determine everything.

If PS6 doesn't release until 2030, and somehow PS5 gets a permanent $100 pricedrop in addition to aggressive holidays deals, then obviously it has a chance to beat the PS2.

But since these conditions won't be met, the more reasonable range is 130-140 million. It's more likely that PS5 will see more price hikes in the coming years. So I'm not sure if it will hit 125-130 million even if PS6 is launched in 2028 or later.

A PS6 delay + GTA VI may give it a big enough boost for it to pass the PS4.

But PS2? With those dismal Japanese sales? No way in Hell.

They need new chip architecture from AMD gpu's before even thinking of doing a new console, and that is not happening until 2H or near end of 2027.
So a PS6 is not happening until tail end of 2027, or possibly 2028.

With the ram issue at hand, I think 2028 is probably more likely at this point.
The PS5 might even go over 130m before a PS6 launch, imo.

Will that mean it goes on to hit 160m ? Not likely to happen.

GTA would need to give a insane boost.

You don't think all of 2026+2027 will be enough for it to pass the PS4 ?
Knowing that GTA should have a effect as well.

Lets say early jan. PS5 is slightly above 90m.
Then its ~27m off of the PS4..... It should be able to pass that in 2 years time.
