Forums - Nintendo - Monster Hunter Wilds TU4 Datamine Hints Switch 2 Version Is Coming

People datamining Monster Hunter Wilds TU4 update have found references to what would appear to be a Switch 2 version:

Well, well, well. If this port happens that's another one a group of posters here were quite vocal would never happen 8-12 months ago, and here we are.

I honestly didn't think a port would be viable just cos the game is a technical mess even on much stronger hardware.

Not keeping Switch 2 as a target platform from day 1 was a mistake, that way it would have run way better on PS/Xbox/PC while benefitting from the Nintendo audience.

It’d be a miracle port, but it’d also be crazy if Capcom chose not to port the game: Monster Hunter is big in JP, and NS2 has proven to be a wildfire success over there.

Doesn't the game have a lot of bloatware on it like it was running two different DRMs on the CPU side to prevent piracy (extremely redundant). I wouldn't be that shocked if they optimized the shit out of it and cut a lot of the inefficient bloat and poor CPU usage.

The visual complexity of the game itself is really not ever been that great, it's just poorly coded and a lot of waste on the CPU resources side for little gain. Something like Assassin's Creed Shadows is a notably better looking game than Wilds which is a fairly ugly game honestly.

But I said it many times ... Capcom was never going to ignore the several millions of copies they could potentially sell on Switch 2.

2026 looks like it could be the year main line Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy (VII), Call of Duty all return to a Nintendo console and probably things like Halo and Forza and MS Flight Simulator too.

I can't confirm where the problem is under the hood, but I played it on PS5 and it looks worse than World did on PS4, image quality is blurry and pixelated, textures are muddy, lighting is washed out, it's just a frightfully ugly game.

I said this many times though, sitting down and even taking a year to optimize for Switch 2 would be more profitable for them than making random Megaman game on Switch 2 or something though. A game like that sells what? Maybe 500k? At best?

A Switch 2 port of Wilds would sell millions of copies, even if you have to devote a dev team to sit down with the mess of a game they have and optimize it from the ground floor up ... it would be more than worth it.

And you could apply those optimizations to the PC and other home console versions as well and hopefully try to get some legs going on the game (its been bombing legs wise because the game has terrible word of mouth due to terrible performance).

I agree that a Switch 2 port would be worth it, I just wasn't sure Capcom would see it that way given the massive amount of work that would be needed to get this thing running acceptably on Switch 2 when it's already a dog's dinner on PS5.

Hopefully it does happen though; I wouldn't double dip myself as I already played it, but a lot of players in Japan especially might want to give it a go but not have  PS5/Xbox Series/gaming rig.

Again though I think reworking the game even from the ground up would still be cheaper than making even a mid-budget Switch 2 game. The art work, game engine, music, level design, creature design, etc. etc. is all already done, it's just a matter of optimizing the performance which may require serious work, but that's doable with a team of say 50-60 people working for say a year.

That's still likely less work than a new Switch 2 game even like a budget tier project like a new 3D Megaman or something.

Honestly, any Japanese dev that isn't making Switch 2 a priority to develop for and then just port to PS5, PC, and other platforms later is just foolish.
Unless Sony forks over mountains of cash to maintain timed or full exclusivity, then it's understandable (to a degree). But developing for Switch 2 first and then going from there just seems to make the most sense.

Just give me a MH rise/sunbreak 2.
Better a new game then a port.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)
