Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumor: Switch 2 has 12GB RAM and 512GB internal storage

These specs would be...

better than I've expected 33 66.00%

about what I've expected 14 28.00%

worse than I've expected 3 6.00%

Total:50

Felipe Lima from the Brasilian videogame outlet Universo Nintendo said that he got information from Nintendo during Gamescom that Nintendo's next system has 12GB RAM, 512GB internal storage, DLSS 3.1 and ray tracing support. It also should have an 8-inch LCD screen and uses cartridges.

Nintendo hasn't confirmed anything yet, so please treat it with a grain of salt. If the rumor is true, Nintendo's next system should be somehow comparable with Xbox One X (not Series X – something between PS4 Pro and PS5).

I doubt it. The rumor about it being about as powerful as a regular PS4 sounds about right.

Doubting a rumor to trust another one ?

Can't say I'd agree with either in any case.

But going this rumor in mind, it would be difficult to think about Nintendo would manage to keep the price of such a system to 400$ or under ...

Anywoo, these type of rumors are gonna keep coming every single freaking day at this point.

The Super Switch's gonna be everything and nothing all at once !

As more individuals purchase Digital and Nintendo Vouchers, perhaps Nintendo will allocate resources to expand their storage capacity on their next console for digital games. This would help them prepare for a potential future dominated by digital content, potentially even launching their own streaming service... sadly for some people.

Seems about right to me. Games are getting large so 512 gb storage is right. 12 gb ram is pretty normal these days. My cheap laptop has 16 gb.  Memory speed is arguably more important than amount.

Switch 2 is going to a very nice upgrade over the current Switch. I can't wait to see games like LM4 and pikmin 4.

I'm standing by my prediction of xbox one and ps4 arena of power.  When new hardware is on the way it is always overhyped.  The ps2 and the famous FF8 dance scene.  The ps5 and 4k 60 fps promises.  The list goes on and on.  Switch 2 will land slightly less powerful than the rumors are suggesting.

The most important rumored spec is the 8 inch LCD screen. This means the console itself will be a bit bigger than Switch, allowing for a bigger battery to be implemented. This doesn't mean that Switch 2 will have longer battery life than the original Switch though, but rather that Nintendo aims for not falling below the 2.5 to 6 hours range of the original Switch.

The rumored specs for Switch 2 are a bit beefier in comparison to what Switch was for its time, so there's really no way around making the console a bit bigger to accomodate for the bare minimum of acceptable battery life.

512 GB internal storage are also eight times as much as good old Soundwave suggested for a cheaper $399 SKU. The series of rumors also suggests an updated game card format - as has been par for the course each generation since the introduction of game cards with the DS - so a more modern solution for external storage should be a given too.

All in all, it looks like Nintendo is targeting a sensible spec sheet that makes it feasible to launch Switch 2 at $399. This is worlds apart from the catastrophic rumor mill that heralded the Wii U.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

The whole 64 gb internal storage was mind boggling.  FF7 Remake is 100 gb.  Even if compressed to 50 gb....  add in the OS + game updates and the switch wouldn't even have enough space for a single game akin to FF7 Remake.  A minimum of 512 gb always made sense.

If Nintendo pushes digital external storage and/or upgrade internal is required.  I guess Nintendo could go proprietary on internal storage upgrades.

I'm thinking memory and read speeds are likely bottlenecks for the switch 2.  It will be hard to match current consoles in this regard.

Best rumor is hall effect joycons. aka no stick drift ever again

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I don't mind a smaller internal memory so long as the other specs are good, but then I tend to buy physical.

Somehow, knowing Nintendo, as they like to go for the bare minimum nowadays hardware-wise, 512GB sounds too much... I cringe at the PS5 coming with only 825GB, as I easily filled up the 1TB on my PS4 Pro. My guess is 256GB is likely, maybe more storage for a higher priced model
