The Nintendomination in Japan is truly something else. Minecraft is a monster,

Question: Wasn't Minecraft released digitally on Switch last year? Or am I dreaming or something? O.o

Yes, you're right, Minecraft was available for a long time on eShop. But physical release is very recent. At the same time with the physical release, they rolled out the unified codebase on Switch, so it actually got a new eShop-ID. Before it was Minecraft Nintendo Switch edition, now it is just Minecraft I think. Who bought the old version can download the new one though.

Ps4 7m celebration baby. So many people doubted it would ever get there. 8m and 9m easy. Teaching 400k+ ahead of ps3 aligned and every week it will increase for a good while. It hit 10m and ps4 will too. Possibly 11m and beat the ps3. GG.

Did people really doubt 7 million?

Ps4 first year there were a couple 6 or 7mil lifetime predictions. Ps4 first year was horrendous. That said i dont think many people thought it wouldnt hit 7mil.

Better Question is will it hit 10mil? It's ahead of ps3 but its not certain yet

Revision history folks. Many old school prediction threads had people saying ps4 under 4 and 5m. Under Wii u, under vita etc. It's powering towards 10m.

Revisionist history? It was a question.

No wonder Sony treats Japan as a minor market now. It only represents 8% of the PS4s sales.

Hmm, but obviously Japan is not a minor market overall. It is just that Sony has lost the grip here a bit. Treating it badly therefore would be as bad, as say Nintendo treating europe badly, because it isn't exactly Nintendos strongest market. If a market underperforms for your product, you have to put work into it to make your product perform better.

Japan is a very minor market when compared to North America and Europe.

In terms of individual countries, Japan has a very large video game market, but it has been left behind in the dust when it comes to regional markets.

The old Japanese region now has to be called the Asian Market if its to compete with Europe and America in terms of playstation. No individual country bar the USA has sold more ps4's then Japan. It's obviously very important to Sony. Not only have they increased sales this gen over the ps3 last gen but the profit margin for the console both hardware and software is ridiculously better. Oh Sony care alright.

It’s a market that’s contracted severely - that’s undeniable. That’s why your Europe comparison doesn’t work. Sony can cater to that market but it would be at the detriment of the other, bigger markets.

It's pretty interesting. Both PS4 and Switch are going up the last weeks. This week not even something new released at all, and they are up. Are we already moving into higher momentum towards the end of the year? This is exiting. Thanks for your graphs by the way, very informative. And clearly shows every time how big Monster Hunter World is.

Indeed it is. No new games and selling more every week. Wonder what numbers will be next week. Thanks! Week 4 was a monstrous  for PS4. Japan love monsters. Can another game in the PS4 library have the same effect or will week 4 show the highest numbers of 2018?
