After the recent news about IGN layoff's and site closures, I decided to leap on over to 1UP and was immediately depressed once I started reading about their closure, and especially the comments that came with it. It got me thinking, will the day come when the VGC site/forums will be closed for good? Sure the site has branched out in recent years, but could this one day mean the forum community, all the articles, posts, etc. may one day cease to exist?

There were people on 1UP talking about how they had been on the site for 8 years or more, which got me thinking, I've been on VGC for over 5 years now, and I could only imagine what it would be like to loose everything involving this site. It's the only forum/website I've ever really involved myself in, so I don't know what I'd do :P

So, how would you guys feel if the announcement were to come down of VGC's closure? :(

I'd most likely go into the Neogaf forums then.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

It happens. I spent several years going to a particular anime chatroom on AOL a long, long time ago. I kind of grew up there. That was when AOL was pretty much synonymous with the internet for many people. We tried to keep in touch in different ways for awhile but it was never the same. I still think about some of my friends from there and wonder how they're doing. I imagine those people from 1UP will go through the same thing. It's part of life.

Bereft

Unless we can start tracking digital sales soon, it might lose a lot of relevance indeed.

We will create a new one...we should call it VGC 2! Only members from the current VGC are allowed to enter.

From experience I've found that sites with moderators who prefer to quash opinion that differs from their own, and thereby reducing variations in opinion, always die. Why? Because it forces the forums to all follow the same line of "we like everything and you can't disagree", which is boring and therefore the people slowly start to drift away as interesting conversation isn't allowed to happen.

In the next few years I think that a lot of the sites I used to frequent, like the escapist, will all start going under. But frankly I think it's a good thing as they were breeding ground for socially inept kids who had moderators just pander to their social inadequacies. If someone is being weird, you should be allowed to say so, because when that kid gets out into the real world, he won't have a moderator protecting him from reality.

I love the people here, I'd be sad.
