Forums - Website Topics - How to make VGChartz a better place...

Tagged games:

- Get rid of tasteless avatars.

- Have a quote tree limit of 3 posts.

- Have a sepia background colour.

- Change the default setting to 25 posts per page instead of 10, as it is detrimental to the flow of discussion, and probably discourages a lot of new users from signing up.

- Remove sigs, as they ruin a forum IMO. Or Perhaps change the default setting to have sigs turned off, so that newcomers aren't discouraged from joining due to a cluttered looking forum and existing members can still have the option to view sigs.

Thoughts? What are your ideas on how to make vgchartz a better place?

Ill be honest, I think the whole split thing is stupid. The community should be brought together, rather than split up.

Get rid of gamrFeeds current state - Make it more user friendly. Go back to how things were before, get people finding allsorts of news on the Internet. Get niche AND big news, but don't go overboard. Get people doing cool, fun features again.

Get it so VGChartz itself is the main site. Make gamrReview/Feed subsites of VGC. Have gamrConnect a sub-site ONLY for profiles and a chatroom and have VGChartz as a forum page like it used to be. Make it so you can view the forums quickly, like it was on the old blue VGChartz. A box with all the forums - All, Gaming, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, PC, Mobile, Offtopic. You click one, the box updates showing you the 25 most recent threads. Quick, easy, simple.

A similar box on the same page for Charts. You can click between WW, USA, EU, UK, FRA, GER, JP, etc. You get the Top 10 + console sales of each and to view the full SW charts, you simply click "WW Software, 33rd February 5167" or whatever.

Bring back the prediction league for gamrConnect. Bring back graphs + comparison tools for VGChartz.

For me, as a member here since 2008 and a lurker from before, these things would be perfect. We get everything on the page (quite like it is now) only in a simpler, easier to use format. Not only that, the site itself doesnt have to have the frankly pointless gamrTV.

VGC keeps the adverts, still gets lots of hits, doesn't split everyone up further killing the already dying discussion.

I'd set quote tree limit to around 5-6, I think 3 is a little too low and I wouldn't get rid of sigs. I <3 my sig and sigs are a great way to share things about yourself and link to other threads and discussions.

Other than that, I think you're suggestions are good :)

I was thinking about making a thread about a VGC pledge... Sort of like a pledge not to talk shit with zero backing. Basically, what we are supposed to do but you still see people slipping. Sure I might throw insults around but I usually back my shit up. How about a you better back your shit up pledge?

Some people are terrible with the quotes.  I believe there should be something in the site that will auto cut the quotes down to 3-4 for you.  Some people just don't understand how to delete the upper quotes.

All this. And make quoting oneself a bannable offense.

What if you set up your post with a perfect joke but no one followed through?

Remove sigs is easy... You should take that out of the op considering you can disable them. Sometimes when I look at VGC while not logged in I'm like whoa.... You are right most people's sigs suck.

That should also be bannable.

Some people are terrible with the quotes.  I believe there should be something in the site that will auto cut the quotes down to 3-4 for you.  Some people just don't understand how to delete the upper quotes.

A mechanical solution won't solve the entire problem. The only way is to teach people to trim quotes and quote trees properly.

There are instances where somebody posts ten screenshots or five videos at once and then somebody quotes that post only to make a one-liner comment that addresses a single picture/video. A lot of clutter that would continue to exist, if there was a set limit for quote trees.

Damn you bring up a good point.  Usually I just delete the video or whatever and just reply back while still quoting.  Quoting someone that posted a embedded vid while keeping the embedded vid slows down the loading of the page.
