In a wide-ranging interview with Kotaku regarding the new Wii U console, one of Nintendo's chief game designers, Katsuya Eguchi, confirmed that the system's proprietary disc format will hold 25 Gigabytes of data. That squares with our own reportingfrom before E3 and puts Nintendo in a good place to run games that fill up a single-layer 25GB Blu-Ray disc, the format used by current console king of large game discs, the PlayStation 3.

Eguchi declined to comment on our report, from the same people who told us about the 25GB, that the system's internal flash memory is 8GB. Earlier today, a Nintendo rep explained that the new console will support external USB drives, for added storage capacity.

If it does release with a relatively small storage capacity, then that would mean lower price, which would encourage people to buy it. Then adding more storage would be pretty simple.

i think nintendo will partner with a hdd company too make official supported hdd's. same color and maybe come with that lego stories online game, perhaps to help sell it more too the masses.

During interview on Spike, Reggie said it's custom disc or something.

That is kinda low storage space for the internal storage.
How will the Wii U handle downloadable games and dlcs ? ( because people are kidding themselves if they think third parties will embrace the Wii U without DLC support..).

It can be fixed with an external hdd but it kinda sucks when the first thing you have to do after purchasing a new console is start buying extra peripherics...
