It all depends on what it cost/ what the price of getting Sixaxis was for Sony. If it really wasn't an expensive or difficult thing to incorporate, then it's certainly not a mistake.

Great examples of using the Sixaxis have come out (Flow/Flower come to mind).
Horrible examples of using the Sixaxis have come out (Lair comes to mind).


It adds little features to games that when used properly is actually pretty fun.



People like to say it was a last second 'add-on' simply because it's not a "primary" control scheme for the PS3 and it's only optional. I think Sixaxis combined with Dual Shock gives you a very sophisticated control scheme that when is utilized properly provides you almost an unparalleled experience.



Lair gave the Sixaxis terrible PR, when really Lair wasn't bad because of Sixaxis controls, it was just bad, period. Like the Wiimote, 3rd parties don't get Sixaxis, but with the Sixaxis there's no motivation for them to keep trying. However, enough 1st party games (Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Loco Roco Cocoreccho, and others including now KZ2) have used it well for me to know it's a good feature.

On the other hand, I slap huge fail on Sony for the absence of rumble in the original Sixaxis.

The Sixaxis made me think about games that could use it, and I thought of Audiosurf, in glorious 1080p. I think that the Sixaxis supporters do have a very good point, and that the negative perception is due to the halfassed ways developers utilized it, not Sony.

Flower is the best example so far for a right Sixasis use,in fact,it could lose some of the relaxing appealing without it.



I think the six-axis is fucking awesome :P If used as an enhancer, and not the main feature, it's a fantastic set-up. The games that have utilized it well have been a real treat to experience. The controller wasn't meant to be fully motion based, and as long as games keep utilizing it when they feel it's appropriate (not just slap it on to say you have sixaxis control), I'm all for it ^_^

Sixaxis REALLY helped you feel like the wind with Flower, and guiding arrows in heavenly sword was just fantastic! And the uses for it in Ratchet and clank were totally badass! It really does increase the dept of these games in my opinion.

best use so far: Folklore, it was magnificent. Really immersed you in the game, balancing, pulling, twisting. Awesome!

Honorable mention: NBA 2k8, can't believe they took it out! It was great for freethrows, especially shaq. Heavenly Sword also, pretty neat.

Worst: Lair and GTA 4(helicopter). I hate when they use it solely as the control scheme. It should only be used to give you that extra tilt.

They should have used it how it was supposed to be used. The reasoning for putting sixaxis functionality in was this, "Remember when you are playing a racing game and you tilt you controller to give you that extra tilt around the corner? Well imagine that it actually does."

IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN USED AS FULL CONTROL. If I could tilt it and it gives me a little extra drift or something, awesome.

Killzone looks promising with regards to sixaxis, opening doors sniping and whatnot. That's how it should be used. Perfect
