Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Staring into the abyss of a world where Nintendo has no games scheduled for release. Edit: The Time of Darkness Has Arrived

Well especially if you'e not interested in some of their biggest franchises, it's hard to expect any one single company to keep you entertained consistently.
I don't know what your financial situation is like or your taste in games in general, but have you considered getting an additional system if possible? Everyone is different, but I've literally never not had an interesting game to play or look forward to since I was old enough to purchase games myself.

I have other systems, (I'd go insane if I didn't) just not current ones. I've considered getting a PS4 or Xbox One but they just don't excite me and the last time I talked myself into buying a system I wasn't enthusiastic about (3DS) I ended up regretting it.

I don't expect Nintendo alone to put out enough first party games to keep me constantly sustained, but third parties are also refusing to give any release dates; Doom Eternal, Outer Worlds, and Blair Witch are all confirmed for Switch and on my to-buy list, but they won't say when they're coming.

At this point it's less a matter of "I have nothing to play", and more "I need something concrete feel good about for the future, to look forward to."

Fuck, I'm sorry guys, I had a meltdown. I'm just so damn tired and beaten down from the constant, endless stress with no end in sight. I just feel so terrible all the time, and having a cool new game announced or one I want dated would've helped so much.

No, I feel it Curl. I really could use a Direct right now and it has been unusually long. Nothing would make this easier than having some glimpses of future projects to discuss.

Are you sure the PS4 wouldn't be up your alley?

It has a deep catalog of acclaimed first parties, plus, a lot of third parties that are probably better on PlayStation than Switch.

There are actually a few games I'd get on PS4, like RE7 and Horizon, but I'm not so financially well off that a few hundred dollars is an insignificant expenditure, so I should hold off until I hit the end of my tether.

Hopefully some of Switch's undated games arrive in the next few months to hold me over.

It's as much a matter of lacking excitement as lacking stuff to play. I know it may sound sad, but hype is a powerful antidote to anxiety and depression; feeling excited about upcoming release dates and games makes the future feel brighter and less terrifying. It's a positive distraction from the constant threat of cancer and covid-19.

Doom Eternal is already out on PC, PS4 and X1.

I'm aware. I don't own any of those, and it's been promised for a system I do have.

Nintendo is the only company I can think of that has people getting angry, depressed and sad when they aren't trying to sell them something. People even beg them to be advertised to. They really are marketing geniuses.

In case some of you haven't noticed, there is a global pandemic and economic crisis going on. Scheduling a major Nintendo Direct production and its distribution along with developing and scheduling the release of games are subject to some very major changes.

By saying Nintendo doesn't care about you by not having a ND when you want it, you are saying you don't care about Nintendo employees.

I don't even know if Nintendo employees are even permitted to come back to their respective offices in Tokyo or Kyoto right now.

Koizumi and Takahashi usually host the Directs from a green screen, which is likely in their offices. Can they do that at their respective homes in a professional manner?

Plus, as Sakurai even described, trying to talk and meet with third party developers is tough right now as no one can travel to other offices. If Sakurai can't even get Fighter Pass Vol. 2 done as scheduled, how could Nintendo get confirmed release dates and progress of games from their studios and their third party partners in a timely manner? Hell, pretty much all of the indie games from Indie World (which was all voice overs and people mostly outside of Japan presenting from their respective offices) had release windows. And that presentation was probably done before Nintendo of America allowed their staff from California and Washington to work at home.

Who honestly knows at this point. Nintendo systems historically do tend to be extremely front loaded with their game lineup. Maybe they’ve plateaued already, and their exclusive output will be very sparse from here on out until their next system

Believe it or not Japan is not taking this pandemic thing seriously at all. Other than people with a lowly job such as myself, everyone is going to work as normal. People are still having large parties in public and going cherry blossom sightseeing. Of course there are significantly less people due to the tourists from Asia disappearing. I go to the gym and it is just as active as usual, if not more. So while the western/ 3rd party side might be more difficult, the Japan side isn't.

It is still only March. Give them time. Sure I'd rather have games announced 9-18 months before they release. But that isn't what Nintendo generally does. Unless it is Zelda, than they are announced years before they release.

I've given them time; more than nine months of it, the last time they announced a major new game was E3.

All I fucking want is something other than misery, fear, isolation, and the imminent threat of death to look forward to in what could be the very short remainder of my life. Just something new to fucking play on my system I paid good money for that's barely three years old. But Nintendo just can't be bothered, and are starving their fans of hope when we need it more than ever.

It's usual for Nintendo to announce their big games in late spring around E3. It's unusual for them to announce them 3 months earlier than that. And fans aren't starved, they're literally buying up games and consoles in record numbers, despite a pandemic occurring.

If you're satisfied with a barren schedule fine, but don't expect me to be happy with having nothing concrete to look forward to.

But that's not true. There are almost 50 games scheduled on the EShop for the next week alone. And Nintendo reveals between 30 and 70 new games every week. There has never been a point in Nintendo's history when their schedules have been this rich with content.

While you may not be looking forward to anything, that doesn't make the "barren schedule" statement true. If we're looking at things objectively, not only do we see this Q4 with perhaps the largest lineup of games ever for a Q4 of any Nintendo system, but also, potentially, the highest Q4 sales for any Nintendo console ever; the standing record is Wii with 34 million set in both Fy10 and 11. And while Nintendo hasn't revealed most of Q1 Fy21 schedule, it's certain that several hundred games will release in the period, and that software sales will potentially break Nintendo's previous record set by the Wii Fy11 of 31 million software units sold.
