Forums - Movies & TV - Alita Battle Angel by James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez (based on the manga

What's with the eyes? In the manga, did everyone have exaggerated eyes, like most manga do, but the movie only kept them on her for some ungodly reason? Or was she really the only one drawn that way?

My avatar is from the manga .

Your avatar is pretty cool, looks much better than the bug-eyed Disney-esque Alita in the trailers.

Right you are, movie Alita is too cartoonish. New princess, whoa!

... she looks too infantile and cute to show the cruel post-apocalyptic steampunk world.

In the manga she is drawn with these eyes :

Other characters have a smaller design :

If I remember correctly, they do talk about her big eyes at some points in the manga. They did the eyes even bigger in the first trailer, they took it down a notch. I think that she looks pretty nice in the more recent trailers.

I love the manga, and I know that James Cameron is a fan of the manga and wanted to do this movie for years (and gave it to Rodriguez because he was too busy with Avatar to do everything himself). Of course, it won't be as good as the manga, but it could actually be a decent and respectful manga adaptation.

The base material would surely be hated by most western critics anyway, so don't pay too much attention to them.

Gonna see it tonight.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I'm looking for your opinion ! Have a good time !

2 french guys that I know from allocine.fr saw it (avant-première), they loved it.

One who doesn't know the manga gave it 4.5/5.
The other one love the manga and he loved the movie. But he said that it is less violent and there are less psychological moments that the manga has. But he was really happy with the movie.

It seems that one "serious" scene in the manga was transformed into a "romantic" scene in the movie

----

Right now the movie is at 7.6/10 on IMDB.com

I just got back from it and I must say, fuck the critics, that was a stellar final showing from Fox as a standalone studio. Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron made sure they really went out with a bang before being acquired by Disney (officially). The CGI, character development and action was off the charts. It IS a little exposition heavy, though, I must warn you in advance for those fixing to go see it.

I never read the manga, so I can't draw any comparisons to the source material, but if you like Marvel and/or CGI movies, you'll enjoy this.

All trailers I've seen looked awesome but yeah the eyes are just creepy as fuck. Makes me feel really uncomfortable. Good to hear they toned it down a bit.
