I am interested in why people are interested in this game. I’ve never played it, but from the lets plays I’ve watched it looks neither fun nor entertaining. In addition, it’s kind of ugly. Is there something I’m missing about it? What makes this game great?

I'm kind of with you on this one. Also, the difficulty doesn't sound fun to me. I mean, I like challenge, but you cannot get a review that doesn't talk about dying a lot. Sounds frustrating to me.

I didn't find the game that difficult (at least for its reputation). What made me really love specifically the first Dark Souls is its extraordinary world design (maybe the best i have seen in any game, i can only think of the first metroid prime coming close) as well as its 'lore based' storytelling (there is no traditional narration but the world and its characters suggest everything story-wise).

Aren'T there more than enough games to choose from? Why pick up a game in the hope, it might be better for you than the last time?

It's the only game I can think of that I want to play after I finish skyrim. I have Octopath and Mario+Rabbids lined up but sometimes I'm in the mood for something where I just hit things with a big stick. It took 2 goes to get into Witcher 3 and when I did I was hooked for 115 hours, so you never know.

Well, I understand that sometimes a game clicks only on the second or third try. But why put money on an experience you already have tried? You could go back to the old version you have, if you wann agive it a second shot without investing anew.

And you have alternatives for hitting things with a big stick. Hyrule Warriors for instance is more light and easy, but it is extremely satisfying to dispatch a hundred enemies at once with an over the top special move. There a re more warriors with Fire Emblem Warriors and Warriors Orochi 4 (releasing today) if you into that. Or if you like to learn your moves and the ones of the enemy like in Dark Souls you could give Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate a try. Only upscaled 3DS-graphics, but the gameplay is great and you have very extremely ridiculous big sticks, if you chose so (it offers a variety of weapons). You could go with a story-based game and exotic creatures and landscapes with Xenoblade 2. Or choose the pretty cool and satisfying experience with Ys VIII.

Basically Switch offers already a lot of games for hitting things with a stick, and including other platforms you have even more. No real need to revisit a game you disliked before.

It's a build centred action rpg the is a lot you won't see and notice from just watching gameplay, for example the are crafting elements to create weapons and armour from item drops with each weapon and armour not only having their own stats but a number having certain traits and abilities leading to build set ups. The game world is also open ended allowing you to go almost anywhere in a non linear approach and the lore is good and then we come to the multiplayer elements which pits players and factions against each other.

Besides having a lot of depth to its gameplay with a huge number of different playstyles to choose from, Dark Souls has one of the most interesting and well designed game worlds I've ever seen. It also has an amazingly deep lore if you're willing to dive into it. It definitely demands a lot from the player, but in my opinion it gives even more back. I understand that it's not a game that everyone is going to enjoy, but for me it's one of the best games ever made.

Stuck with my pre-order because I get £15 credit back with the website I bought it from. Glad I did really - never got into the series into the past so will hopefully get round to it at the same time Smash comes out.

I rented it because I wasn't sure I'd like it, but found the framerate in handheld mode to be pretty choppy, which I think could get frustrating in a game like this when you start blaming deaths on it (even if it wasn't true.) Hopefully it works alright in docked mode, but I didn't try it as I already own the game on PC. So if I'm going to play it on a TV I'll just use that.

It wasn't really bad, I'm sure they can make it better with updates.

But yeah, handheld dark souls was my last attempt to get into the series, don't think I'll bother playing it on TV, so maybe I'll revisit the game if they do update it.
