Besides having a lot of depth to its gameplay with a huge number of different playstyles to choose from, Dark Souls has one of the most interesting and well designed game worlds I've ever seen. It also has an amazingly deep lore if you're willing to dive into it. It definitely demands a lot from the player, but in my opinion it gives even more back. I understand that it's not a game that everyone is going to enjoy, but for me it's one of the best games ever made.
