Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Direct announced for tomorrow! (09/13/18)

The best of the Nintendo Direct were Luigi's Mansion 3, Yoshi and the Final Fantasy (except Pocket Edition). I'm not a fan of Animal Crossing but I'm glad the announcement, that will sell some consoles. 2019 seems to be an exciting year!

God damn it, Nintendo. If it wasn't for the online still sucking, I would've given this a 10. There were a ton of games in there I wanted. But since the online is just confirmed more and more to be a clusterfuck, I have to lower my rating to a 6. I could kinda excuse this when the online was still free, but not anymore.

Which version of ffxv and ffvii are they releasing?

This was a bit weak, though this is mostly due to the lack of any new info on the online. It still looks bare bones. Nice to see Katamari Damaci, Catan and all of the FF games there, though why aren't the sprite-based ones (I-VI) on the system as well?

Because they are currently remade with the 2D-HD-technology from Octopath traveler.

...

I say that jokingly, but actually I have to keep care not to wish for that too much, because just the thought of the first six FF-games in this glorious Octo-visuals can melt my brain.

Lol. We didn't learn any more about the online. Why even feature it in the direct ?

Online was a big round nothing-burger. The only letdown of this direct. And it starts not even a week from now.

That direct was pretty freaking amazing. So much content. Given a lot of it was for 2019, but still that direct was pretty freaking amazing. Lots of surprises. Lots of Final Fantasy games. And the thing I loved the most was Katamari Damacy, which is a must buy for me. My head also would have exploded over Civ 6 if it hadn't leaked already.

This may have been their best direct yet.

I'm not sure if that was the most important thing, the FF-stuff, Town and Luigis Mansion was great too. But Katamari Damacy was another highlight. I love this game. And actually a remaster of the first pleases me more than a new one, because the follow-up games weren't catching the same charme. And Gyro controls and HD rumble are just such a great fit for this game! This will be awesome. Yeah, must buy indeed.

Holy shit at all the FF games on the Switch.
Which ones should I get?

The FF-blowout was great. And the way they brought it. We already knew about Crystal Chronicles and FFXV pocket, and they started with that. I thought that's it. But no, they follow up with Chocobo dungeon. OK, but I actually prefer other Mystery Dungeon games. Then FFXII Remaster, and I really thought at that moment: 'That's nice, but FFVII and FFX would be cooler.' And then, like nothing they announce the other games. That amount of FF in this direct so compact was kinda dizzying. And it's a good thing: Square announced them all, to make clear that Switch will be home for FF, so that FF-fans aren't reluctant because only one or two games are announced. They wanna grow a FF-fanbase on Switch, and that means they wanna support Switch in the future with more FF-stuff.

Crossing my fingers that SE isn't releasing FF VI on the system because they are remaking IV, V, and VI with the Octopath Traveler engine.

Oh, that would be so glorious. As I wrote above, I can't think about that idea, I can't stop thinking that and can't unthink that. That is setting myself up for disappointment.

OK, my thoughts.

Starting off with Luigis Mansion 3 was so great. Just like that at the beginning of the Direct. That already made the Direct great.

Then fast forward through 3DS-titles. I thought maybe comes something else later, but he actually confirmed right after that, that now 3DS is over. And so few time was gone. This was a great start. And the 3DS-stuff was good: online in Luigis Mansion and the stuff about Mario+Luigi.

Then Splatoon. I don't actually know what they announced. New skins and weapons? Modes? And was that new single-player-content? Or do I misinterpret that? I'm confused.

MegaMan we knew would be featured because of the Demo. The Mario Tennis stuff is nice but nothing big. Capcoms Beat'em up bundle is surely nice, but nothing for me. But it adds online to these old titles and is available pretty soon. Super Mario Bros Deluxe adds new stuff like Mario Kart did.

And then I see in the headline the silhouette of the king of cosmos, and my heart jumps. Katamari! And it is a remaster of the first game, which was freaking awesome. And it utilizes Gyro and HD rumble, which should complement this game pretty great. And this Winter. Oh my, this is great. Well for me, I understand the fanbase for this game isn't that big.

The Online 'news' was boring. Nothing we didn't knew. And it starts so soon. At least presented well. Online still feels wrong. They better start spicing up the service soon.

NES-joycons are so nice. That was a great touch.

Let's Go Pokemon has terrain moves, but only for partner Pokemon. Well, it was a hassle anyways to have Pokemon with the moves in your party. More Diablo news. And they actually have a kinda useful way to include Amiibos. More confirmation that Mario Party will be great.

And then they caught me just off-guard with Town. Gamefreak releases Let's Go Pokemon this year, the new Pokemon 2019 and still have the resources to create a full new IP? And it looks just great.

Cities Skylines is a big announcement, whatever people say. It sold 3.5 million units at the beginning 2017, so it might be past four million by now. It is a big IP. And it was unexpected, after we knew already about Civ VI I didn't expect this.

More infos about Daemon X Machina. And Yoshi is still on. And then they announce tabletop games. This again might be nothing big for core gamers, but it will draw in new user-groups. And I might pick up some, as I like some of these games. Surely I'll pick up Munchkin. Civilization we already knew. But I want to reaffirm, that Civ is a big IP. Civ V sold more than 8 million, and even without Switch Civ VI is on it's way to sell more. It will be interesting how big it can be on console.

And these Starlink infos. Wolf is featured? And it really seems, that the Star Fox stuff is not just some new characters, it seems a complete side-story is added. The Switch-version is therefore clearly superior to the other versions.

Ok, infos about World ends with you and Torna. No need to convince me, Nintendo. I have the expansion pass (and can now download it) and I preordered TWEWY.

Fast forward through Warframe, Just Dance, FIFA, Team Sonic Racing, NBA, NBA Playgrounds, Lego DC Supervillains.

And then this FF-blowout. At the beginnign I thought, we already know it all. FF Crystal Chronicles and FFXV pocket edition. This will be it. Ok, World of Final Fantasy and Chocobo dungeon. Nothing big, but nice additions. And then FF XII Remaster! This is big. But I thought: I like FF VII and X more. And then they announce them just like that. Mind blown!

Smash bundle was leaked.

And then they have one thing more. They started off with Luigis mansion, so it must be something big for sure! And then we see Animal Crossing. Can it be? Oh, Isabelle as fighter in Smash. OK, kinda disappointing. But Nintendo is trolling again. They also release a new Animal Crossing. Big news.

Overall this was an awesome Direct. Nintendo really wants to please fans. That became already clear with Smash Ultimate, which is just pure fan service. And announcing Metroid Prime 4, which fans want. But Luigis mansion and Animal Crossing are among the biggest fan wishes too. This makes me think that Pikmin 4 is also underway. This is also a fan favorite.

Katamari Damacy is for me personally great news, but will not have big impact.

But Nintendo want to have strategy and simulation fans. This was made clear, Cities Skylines and Civilization and many tabletop games. They actually expanding the userbase. I think people underestimate these games. They may not be that big as games (although Civilization certainly is), but the main point here is, that they draw in a completely new userbase, also one that is underrepresented on the competition consoles. I don't know how many gamers will be moved to come over from the PC, but it is actually an try to enhance the userbase.

And Square seemingly tries to make the Switch home for Final Fantasy. That blowout contained unexpectedly many games. Good thing. Hopefully this expands to other RPG-series as well. And before the Direct we thought something like Bravely Default would be the biggest we get from Square. I just hope so much they will bring the older FF-games in 2D HD optics...

So in regards to the AC part anyone catch this guy 2 days ago?

He actually called Isabelle being added which would be some guess it it was one.

He calls Dante? That one would be strange, as no DMC-games on Nintendo, but on the other hand Smash got Snake, so...

XV is the Pocket HD edition. Nothing too exciting. We knew that already too, because the Direct was delayed. I'm not sure about FFVII. This was only shortly announced together with IX and X and X-2 HD. As they mention the HD for X it is probably not FFVII Remastered.

Nice so it's the upgraded PC version rather then the ps1 version. Wonder will they ever try and do ffxv ps4 vereuo. It would be hard so who knows. I'd expect ff 14 to be announced though.

That was one of the best directs I seen in awhile. I do wish they highlighted a bit more titles in montage format of titles announced.
